Drake Breaks Apple Music + Spotify Streaming Records With ‘Certified Lover Boy’

It was a given within the Hip Hop community that Drake’s long-delayed Certified Lover Boy would go be an anticipated smash hit. The sixth studio album from the dominant rapper broke both Apple Music and Spotify single-day records.

Spotify tells HipHopDX via email as of Saturday (September 4), Drake’s Certified Lover Boy is its platform’s “most streamed album in a single day” and celebrated the digital zenith with a glowing Billboard in New York City’s famed Times Square.

Apple Music also shared virtually the same information with HipHopDX — reporting Drake’s Certified Lover Boy experienced “the biggest album debut ever,” toppling his own previously set record with 2018’s Scorpion.

October’s Very Own has enjoyed a long-running fanbase with Apple Music, dating back to the anticipated release of 2016’s Views album and the simultaneous launch of OVO Radio.

If the rivalry between Drake and Kanye West is to be believed, the latest string of announcements won’t bode well for the peace. Certified Lover Boy’s newfound Apple Music dominance breaks Ye’s short-lived Donda record while the Spotify crown creates some distance between the two, as Kanye’s 10th studio album recently became the 2nd biggest album on Spotify (now 3rd).

Drake Leaks Kanye West + André 3000 Song 'Life Of The Party' Before Issuing Instagram Taunt

Furthermore, Drake’s decision to leak Kanye’s unreleased track “The Life Of The Party” (featuring a ruminative André 3000 verse and heartfelt DMX family moments) will likely keep the Instagram waters troubled for the time being.

Certified Lover Boy was released on September 3 with appearances from JAY-Z, Future, Lil Baby, Lil Durk, Tems, 21 Savage and many more. Stream it below on Apple Music or Spotify, depending on your preference.

      1. Literally any artist that writes their own shit and doesn’t appropriate another countries slang and cadences.

    1. Damn the conditioning of the masses is strong! Studios and executives have their click farms game on point to make people believe this album is spinning. And I won’t not get to the hundred articles being published every day on social medias about this piece of trash. No wonder why shitty artists are so popular… FOH!

      1. Real talk. Drake is a lesbo & lame, buying streams is so in his lane. Releasing that Kanye west track….like why? Doesn’t change your album is straight trash compared to Donda and Kanye did that album in a couple months, CLB took 2 years.

    3. I like the album. I think it’s drakes most lyrical album to date. I think it’s just lacking a smash hit or two which previous drake albums always produced.

    4. So when Drake pulls these numbers and keeps breaking records, it’s all click farms and conspiracies. But if Eminem or Kendrick did these numbers, then it’s all good, right? FOH and stop hating.

      1. Well… Kendrick and Eminem make good music unlike Drake. That’s why when it comes to Aubrey the click farms theory sounds more accurate than some supposed success. Come on dawg face it. Drake drops some hits from time to time but CLB is actually rubbish.

        1. Anyone who mentions Eminem first has comfort zone issues with hiphop and doesn’t travel far, therefore your credibility in this moment is questionable when you listen to the same 5 people.

        2. Or, how about this? Drake has millions of fans and listeners across the globe that fuck with his music. The same goes for Em and Kendrick. Who makes good or bad music (which is all subjective anyway) isn’t the point here. Just because YOU don’t fuck with his music doesn’t mean he has click farms or bots or underground mole people boosting his streams. Stop with the hate already.

          1. So you’re THAT naive huh? Many artists have millions of listeners in the world but when the music is bad… well it’s just bad. Nobody is spinning a record with such bad quality. It’s one thing to have millions of people listening to aubrey’s new album but it’s another thing to have millions of people spinning that shit so it breaks streaming records… FOH!

      2. It’s kind of sad at this point. They don’t like his music and are trying to convince everyone else to hate him too. People’s music I don’t fuck with, I stop commenting on. The guy has talent. That’s been obvious since he put out those early mix tapes back in 2006/2007. Most of his stuff isn’t my cup of tea, but this album is good like NWTS. Excellent production, and he’s rapping for real on a lot of the album.

      3. The difference is when Kendrick drops an album it isn’t a piece of garbage. Its actually REAL MUSIC. that’s why he gets credited and universally praised for his efforts. Comparing the two shows the lack of understanding you have and the fear of not been Part of The Crowd. Kendrick just beat em both without even dropping … says it all in terms of quality.

    5. This guy Drake has been a fraud since he came out the gate. I don’t know anybody actually listening to this album so these numbers are interesting

    6. Since there will always be 13 year old girls out there I think it’s safe to say Drake isn’t going anywhere soon. I’d say he’s got a few more successful albums in him. Still makes me wonder how much the ghostwriters are being paid.

    7. They control the numbers , they always have. Only a moron would believe these talentless losers would be able to sell this garbage as masterpieces. Its like spraying gold paint on Dog Sh!t. All im saying is, numbers don’t equal quality. This is what the mainstream is pushing. They Don’t want kendrick dropping anytime soon because they know it will over shadow there chosen puppets. Have you seen the reviews for these 2 albums ??? If the only interest in music you have is to celebrate the first week sales then I deeply deeply feel disgusted for you. At least there are still alof of us that know what real talent is.
Drake is about as original as Herpes and Kanye is just … well just, pathetic really. Fake Christian and an all round hypocritical waste of space.

Isaiah rashad dropped a much better and well thought out album.

        1. Hey Antonio! No one in the US says “taking the piss.” You’re obviously not from here, hip-hop is an American art form. Please consume and invest all you want. Both you, and this cornball Canadian will never get it. You’re guests. This guy is talentless because he’s a child actor that doesn’t write his own rhymes or produce music. He’s an industry puppet that was made in the studio. Simple.

      1. what makes you think that any artist signed to the big record companys isn’t going down the same track and be bland as vanilla ice cream. what will change that. you tell me what will change music such as this. a fucking magic negro?

    8. This shit would have flopped back in the days when you had to go to the store and actually buy a disc. Streaming is such a joke and so is the way they calculate streams to equal the price of a hard copy. Its really a fucking joke. Anyways, I snatched the album and gave it a run through. Ill admit he can flow when he wants to and had a few hard beats. Travis Scott murdered him on his own shit though which really suprised me. All those singing songs towards the end of the album sucked ass though. Also very disappointed with the Project Pat “feature” WTF he only got like 6 bars ? But ill admit, it was way better than the Kanye album. Ill probably never listen to either of the albuns again. Delete them from the USB and into the hard drive they go…

      1. Stop lying to yourself. People bought Bow Wow and Kriss Kross albums. Drake’s actually talented. For some of you with this weird obsession with where he comes from or that he was on TV before he started rapping, it doesn’t change the fact that dude got skills. He’s a pop music goldmine who can actually rap too.

    9. I don’t get it is this guy really that dope of an MC? I’ve never heard a y of his records is he that dope of an MC or he is an entertainer ?

      1. Bruuuuuhhhh you never listened to Drake??? He is THE GOAT fam fam!!! I promise you just search ANY track on YouTube, all his $#!+ dope, on god!!! I’m not even gonna listen to ant other album this year, THAT’S how f#$%&! ILL he is!!!

      2. Don’t listen to “Mikey” if you like soft ass singing auto-tune rap you will love Drake but if you’re looking for a real MC look elsewhere.

    10. Those click farms are working overtime. This album as corny as hell. Kanye West has more buzzing people talking about him then this goofball… that’s saying a lot.

    11. I work at the largest radio station which is a hip-hop radio station in the city and state I live in. I could tell you a couple of facts about this album. First of all, this is the first time Drake is released an album and nobody can name a single off of it. There are very few request to have this played on air. The last couple hours he dropped I had a lot of buzz going into them before they came out. All record labels pay radio stations to play their artists music. There hasn’t been the same push on this one, and his music simply isn’t being played on the radio like it used to. Take that however you want. I’m not a fan or a hater. Drake is whatever to me. Some of it is cool, some I’ll pass. It’s pop.

      1. 1. Streaming doesn’t equal records sales, nit even close.

        2. These kids are overly emotional weakling who cry about everything.

    12. Hi. we live in a world of jealous people who send bad energies in our lives. the world is full of traitors, enemies at work, in neighborhoods even in our families for those who do not want to see you succeeding. Some people at work they want that positions you in and some people go to witch doctors simply to ruin your life.
