Dr. Dre’s “Compton: A Soundtrack By Dr. Dre” First Week Sales Projections

Dr. Dre’s Compton: A Soundtrack By Dr. Dre is expected to sell between 260,000 and 275,000 units in its first week, according to Hits Daily Double.

The Sales Plus Streaming sales figure is expected to be between 290,000 and 305,000.

Both figures are expected to make Compton: A Soundtrack By Dr. Dre the #2 album in the country when the sales figures are released next week. Country album Kill The Lights by Luke Bryan is expected to take the top spot.

Dr. Dre’s previous album, 2001, debuted at #2 in 1999 with 516,000 copies sold.

Compton’s sales could be affected by how well Dre plays to the TV market, which is promoting the N.W.A biopic Straight Outta Compton he produced and is slated to arrive in theaters Friday (August 14).

“Dre owns ESPN radio and TV as well as Twitter,” Hits Daily Double reports. “Traditional and nontraditional word of mouth could keep it stronger than the usual trends. That’s something we should know on Monday after seeing the weekend sales. Will the TV ad blitz for the movie give Dre a strong late-week finishing kick?”

The digital nature of the release will affect the numbers.

Dr. Dre says the royalties he earns from the album release will go toward building an arts center in Compton.

    1. Idk how it has any streaming sales. Apple music is still in it’s free trial lol. Great album, but how the fuck/why the fuck did people buy it

      1. Typical illiterate. He said the album was great. He didn’t understand why people paid for it when it was out there for free

    2. Only in Hip Hop does an artist have to release the same album over and over again but when they do they get labeled as not trying anything new.

If most of ya’ll had your way, Dre’s album would have been called Chronic 2015 with ‘Still Exxxplosive’ and ‘Still Ain’t Nothing But A G Thang.’

    3. I bought Compton from i tunes and i hate to hear music that way but compton sounded incredible best I have ever heard from any digital release .I will also cop the vinyl or cd version if they ever release them,I am old school like that…..I am bumping this in my ride and it sounds amazing, thanks DRE!!!

    4. oh yeah, it’s not 1992 or 1999 so yes dre changed his sound as expected.go put in the chronic or 2001 if you want to hear the same album 20 years later…smh!!!

    5. Well, what do you expect when Drake ain’t on the album? If Dre had dropped a single with Drake a month earlier Compton would be pushing 750,000 easy. It’s a shame really that Lil’ Kenny openly refused to be on the album if Drake was featured on any tracks. Chalk one up for karma. Don’t worry Kenny, OVO hears your childish sneak disses. Be prepared for war when Views from the 6ix drops, weak ass lil’ nigga. You don’t want it with the 6God!!!

      1. Drake was never gonna be on the album since he’ll ruin it and it’s only just gonna feature West Coast artists, Aftermath artists, and Aftermath-affiliated, everything he isn’t. 750K with Drake? Please. Aubrey himself couldn’t push those numbers. Also, Kendrick never dissed Drake at all. Quit reaching.

      2. Kendrick can’t diss Drake straight up and Drake won’t have nothing on him…. Kendrick is a way better lyrists than drake easily so screw 6God, King Kendrick is here

    6. It amazes me that he is still getting negative remarks overs this album. I have been a true Dre fan since I first heard “Let the bass go” in junior high. He changes his sound everytime he puts out an album. It took me two solid listens before it soaked in. The same with 2001. Its called evolving not following da masses. You youngsters keep enjoying young thug n fetty . I bet you it wont remember half of their songs this time next year. QUALITY.

      1. Well said. I think a lot of the people that are hating are blindly expecting the Chronic or Chronic 2001 sound. Grow up people. Sounds change. People change. Open your minds.

      2. Actually, if you follow Dre’s music career, his sound can be spotted. What he’s always done is layer his drums and instrumentals very well, but you can always pick a Dre beat out of a lineup, or at least I always can.

      1. Who cares about going number one? This album will still sell platinum or more, something Meek will never have.

      2. I already forgot the name of Meek’s album. But yeah..his carreer is much better than Dre’s. Dre can’t sleep at night..knowing Meek is out there outperforming him. Crying. I wouldn’t be suprised if Dre will hang himself.

      3. Unlikely. Dre will sleep better at night knowing he’s a billionaire and thus album will sell platinum while Meek Mill will barely see gold and has to rely on Nicki Minaj.

    7. Damn, 24 years of dre having a solo career and he STILL can’t get a no.1 album? All of his peers have got them. Ross has 5 of them, meek got one, wale got 2, and dr gay STILL isn’t no. 1 yet

      1. But all of Dre’s albums are better than anything MMG has released, plus they sold more too. Go figure.

      2. Yet Dre can sell platinum or more while MMG have a hard time selling gold. Don’t forget that it’s possible to have a number one album selling less than 50K these days. Total sales>first week sales

      3. Yet Dre can sell platinum or more while MMG have a hard time selling gold. Don’t forget that it’s possible to have a number one album selling less than 50K these days.

      4. Port of Miami went platinum. Keep in mind dre is pop while MMG is hiphop so compton really should have done better. Even Eminem did over 700k 1st week.

      5. Indeed. Rick Ross and Meek Mill are so much better of then Dre. Their legacy will last way longer. Meek Mill. Legendary Meek fuckin Mill.

      6. Tell me that’s a joke. Dre is much better than Ross and Meek. Dre’s legacy will live on while weak ass Meek and Ross will have none.

      7. What legendary careers? Ross and Meek don’t have any. They can’t end Dre’s career. He’s been in this game since the 80s and he’s still going strong.

      8. Yeah but 2001 is 7x Platinum. That’s one of the highest selling rap albums. In fact those sales are bigger than Ross, Meek and Wale’s careers combined.

      9. LOL you morons do realize that Compton is an Apple exclusive until the 21st, right? now that doesn’t look so bad…he hit #2 just on iPhones….fuck outta here he’s killin the game at 50. How does it feel that someone that’s as old as your grandfather just dropped the first legit classic rap album in 10 years?

    8. Lol…you can have a number one album with 80 thousand sold nowadays. See selma almost 300 thousand and haters are saying it’s not number one?…LMAO… I rather go gold or platinum than to have a number one album..smh

    9. Hey idiot drake and Rick Ross fans, you do realize it’s a Apple exclusive til the 21st right? That’s why it didn’t go number 1, not that it even matters because he’ll still go platinum., idiots.

    10. Overproduced album, weak features, weak lyrics about the old days which were already told on 2001, song 2 sounds like a Drake song, Eminem aint from Compton so why he is on the album, album could be a copy of a Kendrick Lamar the so called greatest rapper ever. Keep sucking Dre dick stans

      1. You basically contradicted yourself by saying it’s his opinion and a fact. Compton does not suck and it’s not bombing.

      2. Haha weak features? Kendrick,Em, Ice Cube and hell Snoop killed it….but Eminem’s was the least great out of all of them he needs to stop screaming at the mic…..

        Ft-
        1.Kendrick
        2.Snoop Dog
        3.Ice Cube
        4.Eminem

      3. I guess by overproduced you mean you’d rather hear simplistic beats like Mustard does. Good to know.

    11. These are just early projections. With the Straight Outta Comoton movie coming up, Dre’s numbers will be bigger.

      1. 1. Flo-Rida (duh!) 2. Young Thugger (so lyrical) 3. Shad Moss (that’s bow wow for people who aren’t OG Hip Hop Heads) 4. Birdman (#number1stunna) 5. J-Kwon (here comes the 1 to the 2 to the 3)

      2. 1. Soulja Boy Tell ‘Em (he’s da king, he crowned himself King Soulja) 2. Lil B the Based God (da most swaggiest rapper I’ve ever seen, TYBG) 3. Bobby Shmurda (Hot Nigga is da best song eva!!!!!) 4. Plies (dat nigga is a goon 4 realz) 5. Riff Raff (gotta include a white rapper on da list, he’s better than lame ass Eminem)

    12. Dre said he didn’t release Detox because thought it wasn’t good enough and then he goes and releases this mediocre pile of garbage.
From Straight Outta Compton and The Chronic to itunes exclusive pop albums.
The new school sheep mentality hipsters will love it though. I guess that’s who it is aimed at anyway, just like his over priced headphones.

      1. Pop? There is nothing pop about this album. And don’t hipsters hate mainstream music, though? If anyone’s the hipster, it’s you for hating on this great album.

      2. Stop deluding yourself. This album is a joke and dre was dope back then for sure during his death row days but is now washed up, over 50, and wack.

      3. The only one’s delusional is you. This album is great. Dre sure as hell ain’t washed up, he still got it. Stop hating.

      4. No evidence suggests he’s washed up. The people who believe he is washed up are out of their minds.

      5. I need to check out some more pop albums if they sound like this…..please do expand and I’ll check them out.

    13. I can’t believe all the dre haters ,dre has produced several classic albums not to mention that the chronic was and still is one of the best ever made! Then he gave us snoop , death row ,eminem ,50 etc.. So how can people hate ,like the song says ” I started this gangsta shit and this the mothafuckin thanks I get ” without dre and nwa none of these wack ass current rappers would be here ! His longevity alone makes him a legend in the game ,and his beats are legendary !!

    14. This album made me remember how terrible The Aftermath album we all forgot about was.

Production was on part for the most part as expected. The lyrics though, were subpar to say the least.

I have no intention what so ever to listen to this album again in life. It’s that bad to me.

      1. Maybe if Dre would had guest appearances by Iggy Azalea, Drake, and Tyga would that make it a better album for you?

    15. This a-hole punches women in the face, and throws them threw doors. He has broken women’s ribs, noses, given them black eyes, damaged their hearing. Just ask Tairrie B and Michel’le. No wonder he’s so tight with woman beaters like Eminem and Game. Your son dying was karma, it should have been you though.

      1. Why would you even mention the man’s son dying? …. no one deserves death of a family member…. you had a valid point until you said that stupid bullcrap. Take that ignorance elsewhere!

      2. That doesn’t invalidate anything. What I stated prior to that were facts. In many of those instances there were witnesses. Beating women is ignorant. Dre deserves to be beaten until he’s lifeless.

      3. You’re still wishing death on a man who doesn’t even know you, which is even more ignorant and makes you look look like a piece of shit human being. Dre was still young back in those days, he’s atoned for his actions. Besides, your favorite rappers probably did some horrible things behind the scenes and some of them rap about killing people and selling drugs. If you don’t call them out on their actions, you’re a hypocrite.

      4. How the fuck do you know that he doesn’t know me? He’s an egocentric, absusive piece of shit. Last time I checked, Blu, Black Thought, Talib Kweli and Fashawn haven’t beaten women. You’re making a whole lot of assumptions. Check yourself, before you wreck yourself.

      5. You’re the one making assumptions based on something Dre did when he was young. People make mistakes. Hell, a lot of great music artists have done terrible things. Considering all of the proceeds of Compton are going to charity, I higly doubt Dre is egocentric. The fact that you want him dead makes you look like an asshole.

      6. A mistake?! A mistake is forgetting to set your alarm before going to bed and oversleeping. A mistake is forgetting to check your blind spot. Hunting a woman down in order to repeatedly punch her in the face because she refused to degrade herself on a track on her album ain’t a mistake. I’m referring to Tairrie B. That’s willful, abusive, controlling and demeaning behavior. Dre could have done that to Eazy-E or Ice Cube, but he chose not to. He repeatedly stalked and beat women, because he’s a pathetic low-life coward.

      7. The only pathetic low-life coward is you claiming to know him personally when you don’t. And yes, what Dre did is a mistake. Move on.

      8. Yall rap your women and molest little girls and sibling while they sleep. So don’t act holier then thou. Not to mention killer your own mothers

    16. Dre has only ever been as good as his rappers. He had Cube for NWA, Snoop for Chronic, Eminem for 2001. But now, all those rappers are washed up so Dre got nothin. All he got is Kendrick who honestly has been overrated since day one. Really Kendrick’s flow is like a poor man’s version of Recovery Eminem, which is just boring. Rap in general is dead right now, and it probably will be for another ten years, so it ain’t really Dre’s fault.

      1. I agree rap is dead all we have is the history rap music to go back to Kendrick Lamar sounds more poetic than a rap artist as far as I’m concern after nas decides to call it quits that is the end of the era cus theirs isn’t anymore good rappers left after he some other walks away from it..

      2. You salty ass people are missing out on great hip hop that’s out there. Hip hop is far from dead. There are a ton of artists doing dope, creative shit, even if you don’t like this album. You just have to be open or search for it. Don’t just listen to the popular shit.

    17. This album suck as fu*k, should be:
      1. Gucci Mathers – The Real Gold Chain
      2. LL Cool Jay S.S. – Empire State of Girl
      3. 50 Dogg B.I.G. – Get Rich or go Bankrupt
      4. Ice Ball West – Predalien
      5. Rick Lamar – Husta Poet
      6. BMX – Bike Gon’ Give It to Ya
      7. Busta N9Ne – Bkfsiakfsimasdskm
      8. Method Wayne – Sirup Meth
      9. Lil Kid Joe – Internet Life
      10. Ku Klux Clan – M.U.R.D.E.R. Man
and Bald Chihuahua on remix song with Jennifer Laboy and Ala-Bama – I Stole this remix from remix remix (Remix)

    18. I DON’T REALLY GET HOW ALL THESE PEOPLE COULD LISTEN TO THIS ALBUM AND SAY IT WAS BAD. I JUST DON’T GET THAT. IT IS A LOT LOT BETTER THAN I THOUGHT IT WOULD BE. I THOUGHT IT WOULD BE A BUNCH OF SHITE LIKE THAT AKON AND SNOOP SINGLE OUT RECENTLY. I ALMOST DIDN’T LISTEN. I AM GLAD I DID THOUGH DRE IS SETTING A NEW BAR ON SOME ALMOST PORTISHEAD TYPE BEATS. I THINK IT IS VERY VERY HIGH QUALITY. ENGINEERED PERFECT.

    19. Flat out, this album is killing every album that has been released in the last 10 years and I’ve only listened to half of hit. The production and mixing is impeccable, the artist selected for this project fits perfectly and the song concepts are outstanding! What else do y’all want? If you don’t like this album, its safe to say that you didn’t like it before you even listened to it.

    20. Thanks Dre. Great production, mixing and mastering. These lil youngsters only know poor sound so God 4give them for hatin on greatness. True Grand finale of true hip-hop. Kendrick keep that torch lit my nigga. These lil ass niggaz will end up in top 20 pop charts anyway. hahahehehe

    21. Does anybody know if this is getting a physical release? I can’t understand why this appears to be purely a digital album, though I assume it was part of his deal with Apple. Everyone is talking about how good the album is, and yet no one seems to give a fuck that they aren’t holding a physical copy in their hand.

      1. Agreed. I got it downloaded but really wanted a physical copy to put in line with my other Dre discs (Chronic, 2001, Dre Presents Aftermath etc..).

    22. I have been lucky enough to be around the release of each and everyone of his albums I must say it is a 50/50 album . …for the love of money. ..loose cannons. …genocide. ..just another day. ..all in a days work…darkside/Gone are the only songs I can I feel as a 30 something year old hiphop the rest are not my kind of music I can’t relate

    23. For some people,I believe this album will “grow”on them over time. For me, it is point blank just an amazing album. It’s refreshing. It constantly moves as though it is an actual movie being viewed. And it’s not just “centered”around the artist. Honestly, it will become a classic and rightfully so. “For The Love of Money” “Animals” “Deep Waters” “Satisfiction” are all songs that in concept alone destroy most of the songs out now.

    24. uptil I saw the bank draft which had said $9096 , I did not believe that my friends brother woz like they say really taking home money in their spare time on there computar. . there dads buddy started doing this 4 less than 15 months and resantly repaid the dept on there condo and bought a new Lancia Straton . check out here…………………….7.ly/mspe …………………………….COPY THIS LINK…………………….7.ly/mspe …………………………….COPY THIS LINK…………………….7.ly/mspe …………………………….COPY THIS LINK…………………….7.ly/mspe …………………………….COPY THIS LINK

    25. Album sucked. Nothing like 2001. Talking to My Diary was good because of the beat. Detox should have dropped in 2004-2005 when 50 and banks were killing shit, Nate Dogg was alive and Eminem hadn’t yet entirely changed his style for the worst. This was awful and very pop. Those telling people that call this album crap to go listen to pop are in denial. I wish Dre and Eminem would stop ruining their legacies with awful sellout shit like this. That track with Eminem was a real surprise wasn’t it? Eminem rapping way too fast cause he forgot how to flow, not one sick line and an emu sounding white girl on the hook….sad. When the hell is Banks dropping Cold Corner 3? Seems like the perfect time to me!

      1. First of all Dr Dre’s “COMPTON” soundtrack was not an album. This is the same type of response Dr Dre had got when he dropped the Dr Dre presents the Aftermath compilation album. I love what Dr Dre said on his Still D.R.E classic. Ladies they pay homage, but haters say Dre fell off, How “nigga” my last (ALBUM) was the Chronic.

P.S. Pay attention and shut the fuck up !
