Dr. Dre Pinpoints Moment Drake Slipped Up In Kendrick Lamar Beef: ‘I Said, ‘Adios!”

Dr. Dre easily declares Kendrick Lamar the victor in his beef with Drake, but there was one moment in particular that made him call it before the pair were done going back and forth last spring.

Dre joins Kenya Barris and Malcolm Gladwell for the debut episode of their new Audible series The Unusual Suspects, published on Thursday (January 30). When the topic of his mentee and the beef came up, Dre noted that it was the second Drizzy started talking about K. Dot’s family that he threw away any support he may have had for the OVO rapper.

ā€œI love [‘Not Like Us’],” he said. ā€œI’ma say this on camera. I don’t want to get negative. My whole sh*t is about being positive and moving forward and all that sh*t, but the fact I heard Drake say something negative about Kendrick’s wife and his kids, that made me say, ā€˜Ah, adios!’ā€

Drake said multiple things about Kendrick Lamar’s partner Whitney Alford during the back and forth, including alleging she had an affair with Kendrick’s longtime manager and business partner Dave Free and that he’s the real father to one of her children with Dot.

However, it’s Drake who’s suing Universal Music Group for defamation over Kendrick’s “Not Like Us.”

Earlier this month, Drizzy filed a complaint in New York federal court accusing the music giant — the parent company of his and Kendrick’s respective record labels — of defamation and harassment.

In the suit, which has been viewed by HipHopDX, the Toronto rap star condemns UMG for having ā€œapproved, published, and launched a campaign to create a viral hit out of a rap track that falsely accuses Drake of being a pedophile and calls for violent retribution against him.ā€

He repeats previous claims that the company used ā€œunlawfulā€ methods to turn ā€œNot Like Usā€ into a global hit, including secretly paying for fake streams and radio play.

The motive for this, he says, was financial. Not only would the song generate massive amounts of money through streams and sales, but UMG knew its ā€œdangerousā€ content would ā€œdevalue Drake’s music and brandā€ and give them an advantage when it came time to renegotiate his contract.

ā€œUMG anticipated that extending Drake’s contract would be costly,ā€ the lawsuit reads. ā€œBy devaluing Drake’s music and brand, UMG would gain leverage to force Drake to sign a new deal on terms more favorable to UMG.ā€

Supporting his claim of defamation, the complaint includes numerous examples of the ā€œavalanche of online hate speechā€ that has ā€œbranded Drake a sex offender and pedophile.ā€

It also cites a shooting at the rapper’s Toronto home shortly after the release of ā€œNot Like Usā€ which injured a security guard, as well as multiple trespassing incidents. According to Drake, UMG is to blame.

While the 6 God has faced backlash within the Hip Hop community for taking legal action in a rap beef, the lawsuit makes clear that his dispute is solely with UMG and not Kendrick Lamar.

The suit demands a jury trial.

    1. I like Drake more than Kdot but if he was actually concerned about the fallout of losing the beef diminishing his brand, then why even respond to Like That? Why would you make that move if your contract was up? Like dude, you dropped Push Ups and Taylor Made Freestyle then pestered Kendrick for weeks to respond to you. Also, it has been well known that the Kendrick has a higher approval rating in the hip hop sphere than him. You took the bait, it isn’t UMG’s fault.

    3. Idc what Dr Dre has to say anymore. He claimed Missionary was some of his best work in his lifetime… came up EXTREMELY short. Sad to see.

      1. Missionary came and went. Everytime a trash album drop it gets. 1days hype from the wannabes on line then it’s never heard from again

      2. @lulz I’m not Greg. I’m the guy who says you’re mad annoying for bringing Greg up on literally every article for the past year straight. Grow up. And nobody is arguing with me. We all agree Missionary sucks. Go get a room with Grey, you clearly have some weird attachment of mental need for him.

      3. You should give that same energy to Gay Greg everytime he posts something, no coincidence you tell me something everytime to defend your boyfriend. Gay Jay šŸ˜‚

      4. It was actually a dope album, but it doesn’t matter, no bubblehead like you is going to listen to a 50 year old rap no matter what it sounds like.

      5. @jessejames don’t be so sure about that. Masta Ace is my favorite rapper ever. I can’t stomach 99% of modern rap. Missionary was not dope at all. It’s mostly dick riders who think it’s a good albim. But at the end of the day, music is subjective. If you like it, that’s awesome, I’m glad you got a nice album to enjoy. We all have different tastes, it just doesn’t sound good to me at all sadly. I wish I felt differently, as I’m a bit of a diehard Dre fan… loved the chronic, 2001, doggystyle grodt, Dre Presents the Aftermath was even decent. I liked Slim The Mobster, Bishop Lamont…. Kendrick 2009-2014, really all of black hippy in that time period…. Em n 50 of course. Game. So to say I don’t like older rappers is wrong. That’s what I prefer, and that’s why it’s so sad for me to say I hate Missionaory. Last Snoop album I slightly enjoyed was Doggumentary. Sucks seeing these guys make badmusic. .

    4. Shut up you closet case you and Eminem. Renunder the things both Kendrick and Drake accused each other of Dre is actually guilty of serial woman beater, abuser, and deadbeat how many kids has he abandoned? No one talks about it. He’s a fraud too Eazy-E exposed him and Snoop back in the day we know Dre and Cube are behind Eazy’s death.

      1. One of the daughters he abandoned died from a drug overdose. Meanwhile his artist has time to rap about Drake being a deadbeat then brought him out on stage claiming he’s a ā€œlegendā€ Dre stole his beats from East’s producers at Ruthless then stole his idea for sound equipment. Eazy was going to create a speaker company Dre went with just headphones with Jimmy Iovine and Monster initially then sold off to Apple.

      2. Yeah, can’t respect him as a man. I have never gotten why he’s been given a pass when he’s a weird motherfucker on top of it all. Putting drums on funk beats isn’t worth ignoring this is a garbage human being. The Dee Barnes shit was more than enough to not fuck with dude aside from acknowledging his past contributions to the genre. Not to mention he’s never had any kind of message in any of the shit he’s done. It’s all been materialistic and destructive bullshit.

      1. What does that have to do with Dre knowing that would like a fire under Kendrick? Are you just a gossip queen? LOL

    5. Didn’t Dre notoriously abandon his kids with his first wife and is a well known wife beater and has weird shit in his past with minors himself? So old boy talking about family is funny.

      1. Dude, all you do is talk aboit Greg. Wtf is wrong with you? You have the be the most annoying person on this site.

    6. I’m perfectly ok if Dre doesn’t make or produce another album. Dre lost his ear. His work isn’t cohesive. Just a jumbled mess of sounds. It goes to show that Dre actually needs to collaborate with other producers to bring his sound to life.

      1. Dr. Dre has ALWAYS collaborated with other producers. From the Ruthless days, Death Row, and beyond. Check the liner notes.

    7. Now Yachty is saying Kai Cenat is the ā€œDrakeā€ of streaming. Told you he was a groomer just look at his content and he’s trying to make black people look awful and make kids stupider they actually think he streamed in jail.
