Dr. Cornel West Does Hip Hop Too

Dr. Cornel West, is widely considered to be one of the most intellectual African American scholars in America today, currently a professor of Religion at Princeton, the author of such titles as Race Matters and Democracy Matters — will follow up his 2001 music album, Sketches of My Culture, with another CD combining topics of today with beats and rhymes, this time he brought along some of hip-hop’s elite.

Artists like Prince, Andre 3000, Talib Kweli, Rhymefest, The RootsBlack Thought, Killer Mike, KRS-One, M-1 of Dead Prez and Rah Digga will all contribute to Dr. West‘s Never Forget: A Journey of Revelations, out June 19 on the soul imprint, Hidden Beach.

“This is an attempt to go back to hip-hop’s prophetic roots,” West told Billboard magazine, “Which are about truth-telling, exposing lies, and having fun.”

West will also have Michael Eric Dyson and Tavis Smiley guest, as does singer Gerald Levert, who passed away last fall.
