Dom Kennedy is reportedly suing the City of Los Angeles, the Los Angeles Board of Police Commissioners and the Los Angeles Police Department, according to AllHipHop. The Los Angeles rapper and fellow plaintiff Garry Matthews claim the city’s firearms policies are “unconstitutional,” with their class-action lawsuit aiming to invalidate restrictive gun laws in Los Angeles.
“The City’s and the Board’s and LAPD’s unconstitutional ‘no-issue’ CCW policies (concealed weapons permit) and other unconstitutional gun control laws, which were officially adopted and promulgated by the City’s policymakers, caused [Dom Kennedy and Matthews] and the other members of the Arrest Class and the Nonresident Class to be arrested and detained merely for the permissible Second Amendment conduct of carrying a handgun for general self-defense outside the home or place of business,” the lawsuit reads.

Dom Kennedy and Garry Matthews are requesting damages for themselves and others impacted by the laws, and want a jury to provide funds to pay for their court costs and attorney fees. In addition, they want their arrests and others to be ruled null and void.
Their lawyer Jovan Blacknell adds, “The two key, undisputed facts in this case are that there were no actions that the Plaintiffs or the other class members could have taken during the relevant time period that would have allowed them to carry a handgun for general self-defense in the City of Los Angeles. (1) the City’s Police Chief refuses to issue CCWs for the lawful Second Amendment purpose of general self-defense; and (2) the City’s Police Chief vigorously enforces laws criminalizing carrying a handgun outside the home without a CCW.
“By adopting and following a City policy of refusing to issue CCWs for general self-defense and then by adopting and following a City policy of strictly enforcing State laws prohibiting carrying a handgun outside the home without a CCW, the City violated their Second Amendment rights, and, in the case of Mr. Mathews and the Nonresident Class, the City violated their Fourteenth Amendment rights.”

People should be made to take and pass a mental health evaluation in order to purchase a weapon. License renewed every year under the same expectation. The gun nuts will no longer have the “they’re trying to take our guns away” argument since you it’s hard to argue that giving weapons capable of causing mass casualties to mentally ill people is a good idea even though that’s exactly what they’ve been doing and the politicians who shout “mental health” after every mass shooting can then say they have actually done something. Everyone wins.
While I agree to some point on this idea. It will easily be abused by the government. California has some of the strictest gun laws in the country. If a gun isn’t on their list of “approved” firearms. You don’t get to have it. Lots of companies don’t want to spend the extra money for this. Mental health sure. But what’s the measuring stick for this? Who decides? This a constitutional right ordained by God. It isn’t like a car. Driving a car is a privilege. This talking point is one of those things that sound well to do, but ultimately give more power to the government. What if they decide for whatever reason to not grant you renewal of your license for some other reason? Once you start to let go of your rights you don’t get them back. Look at the Patriot Act. As for mass shootings. Most of the shootings were done with illegally obtained firearms. Most gun crimes are done by criminals. Not responsible gun owners. So no not everyone wins. Just gives you the good feeling of trying to do something while accomplishing nothing.
Everything is open to abuse by the government; it’s kind of their thing. Doing something is better than nothing. And God ordains nothing because God didn’t make guns nor the laws surrounding their use. I hate that some imaginary person somehow rules over all that we do.
You don’t have to like it. It’s what it is. What the person I responded too is talking about sounds a lot like a national gun registry. Those never go over well. I don’t care about your lack of belief in God, nor the other nonsensical stuff you spewed. Something better than nothing lol. The road to hell is paved with good intentions.

Mr. Kennedy needs better legal advice, any attorney worth their salt, knows that CCW’S are a County issue and therefore a matter of the Sheriff’s office, I should know since I got my CCW from the L.A County Sheriff’s Office.
