Doja Cat has no intention of beefing with Nas over his lyrical jab at her on the single “Ultra Black.” During an appearance on The Fat Joe Show, Doja was asked about the apparent diss and admitted she was excited to even be on Nas’ radar.
“I’m just glad he’s putting out music ’cause I love him,” she told Fat Joe. “I grew up on Nas, so to hear that, I’m like, ‘Damn.’ But also, ‘Damn, I fucking love Nas! Thank fucking God he noticed me.’ I love Nas, so I don’t give a shit. He can say whatever he wants. I really don’t care. If I love you, I love you. I don’t really give a damn about … you know what I mean?”
Doja noted her past comments about “Ultra Black” were meant to be humorous as she has no ill will for Nas. She also promised fans will never hear her dissing the Illmatic creator even if he wanted beef.
“I made jokes about it, but other than that, you will never see me beef with Nas,” she explained. “He might wanna beef with me, but you’re not gonna see me beef with Nas. You won’t see me respond to that.”
Nas’ “Ultra Black” was released in August as the lead single to his King’s Disease album. The track featured the following lyrics: “We going ultra Black, unapologetically Black/The opposite of Doja Cat, Michael Blackson Black.”

In an interview with Power 106, Nas claimed the lyric wasn’t meant as an insult to Doja. According to him, her name just fit the rhyme.
“I just was really saying a rhyme that rhymed with ‘ultra Black,'” Nas told Power 106. “I rhymed that word with ‘ultra Black,’ I didn’t even think of it. It’s all love, it’s all love.”

Some of you guys misunderstand. I hear a lot of cats saying Doja backed down because she didn’t want that ether, but here’s the thing: these female rappers today are united, and all the young girls listen to them. Battle rap is as much about popularity and crowd control as it is bars, though you could argue it shouldn’t be. Combined with this ongoing perception of Nas abusing women. Nas is hands down my favorite MC, but he did make himself vulnerable with that Doja Cat line. If she did clap back, it would’ve looked very awkward for Nas, and these youngsters would’ve ate that shit up. Peace, it’s The El.

I love Nas but without fail he says some dumb sh!t on every album and the Doja line was definitely a stupid one. He realizes it too, which is why he has backtracked on it like this. Smart move by Doja to take the high road on this one, pun intended. I’m glad that it ended with nothing but love.
