DMX is about to do some time. DMX, whose real name is Earl Simmons is getting ready to serve time. Dark Man X pleaded guilty to violating the terms of his conditional release.
This stems from way back in June of 2004 when X claimed he was a federal agent. As if that wasn’t bad enough, he claimed this while attempting to steal an automobile. At the time, it was reported that police found about 20 rocks of crack cocaine as well as some Oxycodone and Diazepam in X’s ride. 2 driving-related offences have made this worse and violated the terms of his conditional release.
His attorney, Murray Richman understood that there was no way to avoid a day in jail. “There was no question [of guilt in this case], so it would be disingenuous to suggest that we could have avoided this altogether,” he said.
While spending any amount of time in jail isn’t a great vacation, for X, this was better than his other option. If the case was tried and ended in a conviction, Simmons could have gone up to a year in prison. Understanding this, Richman knew this was the best way to go.
“Under the circumstances, this was the best we could possibly hope for,” he said.
When asked about his client, Richman had nothing but good words for him. “The man’s a class act. He did what he had to do,” he claimed. Richman also added that X was “in good spirits” throughout the whole ordeal. Apparently, X also knew what he had to do and faced the consequences head-on. As Richman explained, “He took it. It’s a somber situation. He felt the reality of it and he’s moving on.”
On November 17th, DMX will learn what his future will look like. According to his attorney, it will be 60 days behind prison walls, or less, under conditions of his plea agreement. If this does go through, X is expected to do his time on Rikers Island.
