DJ Mustard Blasts Iggy Azalea’s “Fancy” & Jidenna’s “Classic Man”

DJ Mustard says he’s the true originator of the sound used in Iggy Azalea’s “Fancy” and Jidenna’s “Classic Man,” HotNewHipHop reports.

“Fancy was a rip off… Classic mans a rip off… Str8 up!” DJ Mustard wrote on Twitter yesterday (August 18) in a since-deleted post.

The 10 Summers labelhead says that the producers of the Iggy Azalea track are suing those of “Classic Man,” “for shit they ain’t start.”

DJ Mustard says that he is not pursuing legal action against either song, that he is just keeping West Coast music alive.

Iggy Azalea has said she is getting royalties from Jidenna’s “Classic Man” because the song samples the Australian rapper’s “Fancy.”

    1. Mustard you didn’t start that shit. You from LA, that started in the Bay. You didn’t originate shit either

      1. Do bay area niggas ever stop crying and whining? Bay area dudes will swear they’re the originator’s of all things music. Niggas want credit for shit they can’t even get off the ground.

      2. well, we wouldn’t be cryin if it weren’t partially true lol.

Things that started or were popularized in the Bay:
-a ton of slang- “tight”, “hella”, etc.
        -independent record labels
        -radio station’s “summer jam”
-DJ Mustard sounding beats (unconfirmed, but story has it that he was at a house of one of the members of HBK Gang and jacked their beat kits lol). I’m from the Bay and swear I thought Mustard was from there until I read his Wikipedia page. That sound dates before HBK, I knew it as an E-40 type beat in the mid 2000s.

    2. holy shit Mustard didn’t produce Fancy or Classic Man?!?!? I heard both and just automatically assumed they were both his right away.

the sound is WACK, but he’s totally right – they straight up stole his sound.

either that, or someone else found the stock Fruity Loops stab synth that made Mustard famous LOL

    3. I hate it when niggas try to “own” a sound. Most of hiphop beats sound the same and why shouldn’t they, its one genre isn’t it. If they had sampled a beat by Mustard he would have a case…not this bullshit!

      1. Co sign that!!! Especially in 2015. These dudes don’t even play instruments. That’s why they shit sound the same. Even he recycles his own sounds but nobody is knocking him.

    4. that sound is so repeatitive..and he didnt start the sound, Allan George and Fred McFarlane started the sound in 1990 when they produced Robin S’s “Show Me Love”….All Mustard does is sample this same record over and over..thats not creative at all…LOL

      1. THANKS THANKS THANKS Robertsvision. Show Me Love (Must ) have been his favorite song from back in the day. But to try and claim to be the author of that soundis fraudulent. Back when Teddy Riley was King, his sound was jacked by so many producers. He never tried to sue anyone. It’ just part of the game.

    5. DJ Mustard and all you producers know that Mike Free created that style. DJ Mustard just as the kick and that snare and a few high hats…. Research Mike Free… He is behind all of DJ Mustard hits….

    6. Dj Mustard need to sit himself back down in his high school lunch room chair— Dude is eating off subsidized meal tickets.

    7. My named is dj ketchup I’m coming out with a style just steal mustard sound and add 2 it that what rap about today steal other people ideals fruity loops using ass boy

    8. ••• I HATE : THAT FAT FUCK DJ KETCHUP CAUSE HE S ONE LF RHE MANY REASONS THIS HIPHOP SHIT TURNED INTO GAY PUNK HIP-POP. ••• I LOVE : VICTORIA HERNANDEZ

    9. both songs sound like Jermaine Dupri-esque “snap music” from 2005 which origin was Atlanta, nowadays there is no such thing as western or southern or new York “sounds” hip-hop is all over the place, look at Asap Rocky, his music didn’t sound ny, it was more like more than usual lyric southern music, this information age has made labels on sounds irrelevant, I mean there’s lyrical, auto tune, watered down no autotune, punchline, trap music, neo trap music, Savage music, etc. Those could be sub genres on sounds but by area of origin, it isn’t uncommon to expect trap music from New York, look at Big KRIT, besides for his southern accent and topics, in the 90s he’d be put in a category of soul rap, I was only a kid in the 90s but do miss the boom nap, dj premo inspired sounds, hardly anyone makes that any more, I mean respect to all genres but besides for termanology, occasional d-Block, Royce da 5’9″ sometimes and slaughterhouse and usually Statik Selektah collaborations are only remnants and continuations of the boom bap sound, DJ Mustard is full of himself to Claim a sound in this day and age…..the only producer that comes to mind on modern sounds is Zaytoven and Shawty Redd for creation of original trap music., DJ Premier is the originator of real turntable boom bap music, followed shortly by alchemist, nowadays you can’t claim a sound, if you do you’re delusional
