DJ Envy has chimed in on the conversation surrounding why Hip Hop is yet to land a No. 1 album or single this year, disagreeing with Bow Wow‘s argument the reason is the music is garbage.
TMZ caught up with The Breakfast Club host on Wednesday (June 28) at LAX and asked him about the former So So Def rapper’s comments. In his opinion, it’s not the quality of music but the quantity that’s the issue.

He also listed several rappers that have been making waves in the last few years, like Young Nudy and Toosii. Additionally, he highlighted seasoned artists like 21 Savage and Drake.
“I think it’s just a matter of time,” he said. “I just think that we’re just consuming so much music now, and it’s kinda hard for music to stick. Usually, we had music [and] we’d rock for a whole summer or couple of months. But now it seems we’re turning music over too fast.”

While attending the 2023 BET Awards — which he also hosted — Bow Wow was asked about Hip Hop’s absence on the Billboard 200 and the Hot 100 charts.
According to Mr. 106 & Park, it’s been a decline in quality: “‘Cause n-ggas puttin’ out trash-ass music,” he said. “Everything sound alike, everything repetitive, same tempo … everybody could do that, you know what I’m saying?”
He continued: “You really gotta have talent, you really gotta go. I think people are startin’ to get tired of it now, that’s why you don’t see nothin’ chartin.’”
By June last year, six different rappers had already landed a No. 1 spot on the Billboard 200 chart. On the Hot 100, two Hip Hop tracks had secured a spot at the top by this same time. Yet, some stakeholders of the culture believe the genre is still doing great.
