Danny Brown Recalls Weirding Out Pharrell: ‘I Couldn’t Stop Following Him Around’

Danny Brown has humorously recounted a peculiar first meeting with Pharrell, expressing how he was captivated by the multifaceted artist.

During a recent episode of Drink Champs, the Detroit MC was asked about his interactions with industry heavyweights like Pharrell, Andre 3000, and more.

“I seen him one time and I think I probably weirded him out because I couldn’t stop following him around,” he began, speaking of meeting Pharrell at the 56:00 mark.

“But, it was by mistake,” he added with a laugh. “Cuz he just had an aura around him.  It was like a glow. I wasn’t meaning to do it. I couldn’t ‘t stop myself. It was like I was just drawn to the n-gga man.”

He continued: “Everywhere he went I was like damn I’m going there too. It was like an I don’t know a kindred spirit or something. I can’t explain it. I couldn’t stop following the n-gga around

“I couldn’t stop following the n-gga. I know he was like ‘What the fuck wrong with this n-gga?’ But, I couldn’t stop following the n-gga man,” he concluded emphasizing once more “I wasn’t doing it on purpose.”

Late last year, the “Y.B.P” rapper dropped his sixth full-length body of work to critical acclaim.

During an interview with HipHopDX soon after its release, he talked about the changes in his lifestyle and choosing to pursue sobriety in the public eye.

“I’m kind of like an open book,” he said about announcing that he was checking into rehab just as his joint album with JPEGMAFIA dropped in early 2023. “It kind of helps me in some sense, too […] now, it’s like if I fuck up and relapse or something, I fail in front of the whole world, my whole fanbase.”

He added: “I don’t want to let them down, y’know, so they on this journey with me. And they give me a lot of encouragement, too, to keep it on the straight and narrow. I’ll get a message, they be like, ‘Man, you 117 days [sober]’ — I was getting messages like that where they counting the days […] shit like that keeps me motivated.”
