Common To Star In “Cooley High” Remake

No stranger to the silver screen, Chicago rapper Common is set to star in a remake to the film, Cooley High.

Deadline reports that musician/actor Common will both star in and help produce a remake to the 1975 film, Cooley High. Seth Rosenfeld, who served as writer for the film Sunset Park and several episodes of HBO’s How To Make It In America, will write the script.

The Chicago wordsmith’s Freedom Road Productions is on board, as is Franklin Entertainment and Flame Ventures.

The coming-of-age flick, which originally starred Glynn Turman and Lawrence Hilton-Jacobs, tells the story of a group of high school seniors in Chicago. As a comedic drama, Cooley High touched on a number of heavy topics, including gang violence and education in the black community.

Given the relevancy of those topics decades later, Deadline reports that those behind the remake “felt it a timely project in light of the racial unrest that has followed several high-profile shootings throughout the country.”

It is currently unclear what role Common will take on in the Cooley High remake.

    1. I’m willing to bet he will be COCHISE. You know what??? For YEARS I had Predicted this!!! Aint that a bitch?!?!?
Speaking of COOLEY HIGH-THE REMAKE, and Chicago, how’s this for casting: KANYE as PREACH, LUPE as POOTER, LISA RAYE as BRENDA, RHYMEFEST as TYRONE, DA BRAT as TYRONE’S GIRLFRIEND, BISHOP DON ‘MAGIC’ JUAN, as JIMMY LEE, and CHEIF KEEF and LIL BIBBY as STONE AND ROBERT.

      1. Half of those people will either be dead, in jail or outed as a homosexual/child molester/closet racist by the time the show is ready to air, buddy. Nice try though.

    2. Please stop remaking Classic movies, there’s no need to update them when they still perfectly the time period they came from. Just make your own version of the movie and avoid a remake.
