Clipse have revealed that they were forced to part ways with Def Jam after the label attempted to force them to remove Kendrick Lamar‘s guest verse from their new album, Let God Sort Em Out.
Speaking to GQ, Pusha T described how their relationship with the storied label crumbled over Lamar’s feature on “Chains & Whips”.
He said: “They wanted me to ask Kendrick to censor his verse, which of course I was never doing. And then they wanted me to take the record off. And so, after a month of not doing it, Steve Gawley, the lawyer over there was like, ‘We’ll just drop the Clipse.’ But that can’t work because I’m still there [solo]. But [if] you let us all go… ”
It was also revealed that Def Jam were concerned about the optics of two of Drake’s arch rivals teaming up on a track while his lawsuit against UMG was ongoing.
As a result, Clipse and Pusha departed the label and eventually signed with Roc Nation to release their highly anticipated reunion album.
Def Jam and UMG are yet to comment on Pusha’s allegations.
Last week, Clipse finally announced the release date for Let God Sort Em Out.
In a social media post and cinematic trailer, the brothers announced that fans can expect the album relatively soon with it arriving on July 11.
Let God Sort Em Out will also be executive produced by longtime collaborator, Pharrell Williams.
The announcement would also reveal that the entire project was recorded at the headquarters of Louis Vuitton in Paris.
The unveiling was accompanied by a trailer which shows the two rappers working in the studio as well as archive footage of figures such as Mike Tyson, Slick Rick and DJ Clue.
The clip also features the voice of Marge Simpson.
KAWS has also designed the project’s artwork as he did with previous Clipse album Till the Casket Drops.
Pusha previously confirmed that the album was completely finished by the end of last year.
Speaking with journalist and broadcaster Ari Melber at Miami Art Week, Pusha said: “We always take long, people be mad. [But] it’s okay ’cause it’s done. I’m telling y’all, it’s done. I promose you. It’s in my phone.”
So Drake has power over all these labels to have artists censored and dropped from their label if they hurt his feelings? Is it because he is small hat?
No it’s because the lawsuit they feel it helps him if 2 of his enemies partner that’s why. It proves he’s probably winning especially since Pusha revealed this and if the rumors are true Drake was told by them years ago not to make a certain Diss about Pusha because he’s their artist and it would damage him. Ye might have just given Pusha and Jay Z the kiss of death with those tweets same way N3ON did Hasan.
Still got Drake’s balls in your mouth it seems.
Oppcls – trying too hard.
Smh @ Def Jam…really?? Who is actually still signed to this sinking ship?
Pusha, Rihanna, Big Sean, YG, LiAngelo joined recently, I think Bieber, Ludacris, Jeezy, Fab maybe and Jadakiss? Probably a few more and Snoop not sure his position but he was given a role a few years ago not sure now. I think Rick Ross is still with them as a solo artist? We need a new game if they won’t then someone should! Don’t need to be called Def Jam.
Luda hasn’t had a record deal in a long time. YG left to BMG, Jeezy is indie now, Rhianna and Rick Ross left 10 years ago to Roc Nation and Epic, and Snoop left as soon as he relaunched Death Row. You don’t know jack shit about anything my man.
This helps his case. It shows he’s right and they’re scared. Drake and UMG.

Drake can literally own universal once he wins his lawsuit.
Somebody lying. This doesn’t even make sense when the whole company was at award shows and the Super Bowl shitting on Drake. But they told you to remove a verse from the guy they’re backing? Okay.
