The City Girls are gearing up for an “elevated pussy rap” summer takeover and have just dropped two new singles to kick it off.

On Friday (June 9), JT and Yung Miami hit fans with a one-two punch with the release of “I Need a Thug” and the Southside-produced “Piñata.” The former flips LL COOL J’s 1987 classic “I Need Love.”

Talking to Complex about the new music, the duo said the album the tracks will live on is going to be a whole different vibe from them — an elevated one.

“I felt like other projects, we was really just having fun. We wasn’t in our head about it or overthinking it,” Miami said. “We would just do songs and put ’em together. Now it’s just like we think about these records and figure out what’ll be great.”

JT added: “It’s just a perfection thing right now. I don’t want to put out nothing corny. I feel like we’ve been here too long, and I don’t even want to play how we used to. I want the music to be good and hit. It’s still pussy rap, like it’ll be fun, but much more elevated. It’s elevated pussy rap.”

Since the release of their sophomore album City On Lock in 2020, the Florida duo has remained consistent with a slew of singles including 2021’s “Twerkulator” and 2022’s “Good Love” with Usher.

Their most recent release “Act Bad” arrived in May, a collaboration between City Girls, Diddy and Fabolous.

“We all teamed up together to drop the song of the summer,” the Bad Boy boss said when announcing the song. “It’s gonna be an Act Bad summer.” According to him, “acting bad” means embracing personal freedom, letting go, and “not giving a fuck.”

City Girls’ new album is set to arrive this summer — but it will be a year past its original release date of July 29, 2022. According to Miami in an Instagram Live last summer, “issues” got in the way of the planned release.

“The album was supposed to drop July 29, but it’s not dropping because we had some issues — not issues, but you know, when you dropping an album, you have to make sure everything is good,” she explained.

JT offered a more definitive explanation behind the album delay when she hopped on Twitter later that week. “Our album NOT finished!!!! TF,” she stressed.
