Although Chuck D is overseas with his supergroup Prophets of Rage — Cypress Hill’s B-Real, DJ Lord, Rage Against The Machine’s Tim Commerford, Tom Morello and Brad Wilk — he’s still at the helm of his revolutionary Hip Hop group Public Enemy. Over the weekend, a Spanish publication leaked the news that a new Public Enemy record was on the way despite the fact it was supposed to be a secret, causing an avalanche of speculation on sites like Reddit.
HipHopDX reached out to the legendary MC who confirmed from a Croatian stage via text that “yes” there is a Public Enemy record dropping on July 4 titled Nothing Is Quick In The Desert. The album will be available as a free download.
“The record business is appearing like a desert,” Chuck tells DX of the title. “But the music has a life if you look at it right.”
Considering the overtly political nature of Public Enemy’s catalog, which begins with 1987’s Yo! Bum Rush the Show and culminates with 2015’s Man Plans God Laughs, it’s safe to say we’ll hear commentary from Chuck on a bevy of socio-political topics.
Until July 4, revisit one of Public Enemy’s most revered tracks below.
PE IN FULL EFFECT!!!!
Na, I think everyone is good without hearing a new album. Thanks . . . appreciate the effort, old head
I swear, you’d never see comments like this from young rock fans to Metallica or Iron Maiden, or even Paul McCartney. They’d listen. Why is age such a big deal in hip hop? It shouldn’t have to be. Maybe veterans like Chuck D just enjoy making music, not because they have to, but for the love of it. Go enjoy your Lil Yachty album, because obviously, you’re one of those people.
i dunno its necessarily the age that draws the divide. there is little to no substance im todays pop-ular shit. plus, it really aint rap or hip hop. hip pop. and the culture is fruity and makes certain communities look bad. or worse.
Nah I don’t think “everyone is good.” What we don’t need is one more bullshit Future song. Thanks! (And you call yourself “Tupac.” Wouldn’t he be an “old head” if he were still alive?)
Tupac would be 46 if he still existed in the physical…and Chuck D was a huge influence on the moniker that you’re using on this site. If you’re blessed, you’ll get to be an “old head” too. That doesn’t mean you stop loving or even creating hip-hop music if your chops are still on point and I’ll put PE on stage against anybody, new or old, and Chuck, Flav and the crew will probably body whoever it is.
Last album was dope. I’ll cop this one too.
Chuck, this is a heartfelt plea. Re-unite the original Bomb Squad now. Call Hank Shocklee. Call Keith Shocklee. Eric Sadler needs you. Gary G-Wiz needs his confidence back. Bring them back before we suffer through more garbage production from Griff and Johnny Juice. Only you can stop the madness.
I agree 100%, but you have to remember without a major budget for sample clearances, you can forget.
Waiting on it
Good news. I hope they ether Trump, their supporters and more
In 1995 you’ll twist to this as you raise your fists to the music
I won’t make buy the album. But if u2 can still drop albums, so can P.E.
P.E. is important to history period. Chuck is one of the greatest. Flavor flav damaged the seriousness of the group/movement. Professor griff is the truth
More communist propaganda from self described communist Chuck D.
old head looking assss
Who are you in the rap game???….NOBODY!!! Have some respect.
