Not everyone is thrilled with the news of a New Jack City reboot.
While sifting through Angela Yee’s Rumor Report on Tuesday (September 24) during a taping of The Breakfast Club, Charlamagne Tha God couldn’t contain his disdain regarding the reported return of the 1991 beloved film.
“Classic, classic movie but fart on the idea [of a reboot],” he retorted. “First of all — I hate to say this — but there’s so many new drug stories you can do. Like there’s so many different kingpins across the world — especially in the inner cities — there’s other stories to be told!”
The original film combined the talents of Mario Van Peebles, Wesley Snipes, Ice-T, Vanessa A. Williams, Chris Rock, Allen Payne, Judd Nelson and the late Bill Nunn through the acting and directing side and immediately became a staple within the culture for its mirroring of the urban environment.
“Everything don’t need a reboot, bruh,” he continued. “New Jack City is a classic as is. And plus for the time, that whole new jack swing era with the music and everything? Nah, leave New Jack City alone!”
Peaking in the early 90s, the new jack city era brought forth a fusion of R&B and dance beat grooves, popularized by Teddy Riley and others. The New Jack City soundtrack alone was pivotal for the movement as championed artists such as Christopher Williams, Guy, Color Me Badd and Queen Latifah.
Although the purported reboot is currently devoid of a director, the film’s original producer Doug McHenry is said to be joining forces with A Star Is Born producer Bill Gerber.

People with money make these decisions while people with wack platforms bitch and moan.
I agree with Charlamagne, leave New Jack City alone. If it isn’t some type of sequel that acknowledges the first then let it be. Also, how many rebooted movies that actually worked and well-liked by the fans from the original? If it isn’t a sequel that acknowledges the first film then leave the classics alone, unless you’re doing a children movie.

It doesn’t need a reboot. It didn’t need to be created in the first place. It was a dumb a** movie to begin with.
