Chance The Rapper has given T-Pain his flowers after the Florida native put on a show at the 2023 Soul Train Awards.

The rappa-ternt-sanga performed a medley of his tuneful hits at the awards show, which were broadcast live from Los Angeles on Sunday (November 26), including “Buy U A Drank,” “Can’t Believe It” and “I’m Sprung,” as well as his features on Flo Rida‘s “Low,” Kanye West‘s “Good Life” and Lil Wayne‘s “Got Money.”

Chano was among those who showed love to the Nappy Boy on social media following the energetic performance, which lasted for almost 10 minutes.

“Pioneer/living legend,” the Chicago native wrote on The Shade Room‘s Instagram post, while E-40 added: “Goated @tpain multi talented [goat emoji].”

T-Pain graced the outdoor stage for a second time during the show as he received this year’s Legend Award, which was presented to him by David Banner.

“David recently became my life coach,” he said. “He don’t like to be called that, but when I finally got the courage to ask somebody for help with my life, I went straight to David Banner. And the words he gave me within those three hours of us talking set a whole different trajectory of just where my life was heading. So I thank you so much, bro.”

The 39-year-old also thanked his “beautiful wife” Amber Najm for staying by his side through thick and thin before modestly admitting that it might be “a little early” for him to be crowned a “legend.”

The lighthearted humor turned to poignancy when T-Pain reflected on the death of his brother, saying it taught him and his family how to express their love and that “life is so short.”

“To the new artists out there, I don’t want you to chase this. I don’t want you to base your life on how many people in this crowd can tell you that you can have this,” he concluded his speech.

“I want you to know that you already got this. You already have this in your mind. I want y’all to be who you are, unapologetically […] and I want you to not care what anybody else thinks about that person.”

T-Pain and Chance The Rapper have worked together in the past as the latter recruited the Florida singer for his Coloring Book song “Finish Line/Drown” in 2016 alongside Kirk Franklin, Eryn Allen Kane and Noname.

Chano also pulled up to kick it with T-Pain for an episode of his Nappy Boy Radio Podcast earlier this year, where he delivered an impressive cover of Kanye West’s “All Falls Down,” which is Chance’s favorite Ye record.

“I love this show,” he proclaimed after nailing the Nappy Boy Radio song of the week performance. “Yessir, that felt great.”

Elsewhere in the episode, Chance named his Top 5 Chicago rappers, giving the nod to Kanye West along with Lupe Fiasco, Chief Keef, Twista and himself.
