Cee-Lo Explains Controversial “Fuck You” Song

It has only been a matter of days since singer/rapper Cee-Lo Green released the controversial track “Fuck You” and the song is still being widely talked about both on and off the internet.

Cee-Lo recently spoke with the Associated Press about the song, which will be featured on his upcoming album The Lady Killer. In his interview with the AP, the Goodie Mob/Gnarls Barkley member explained that “Fuck You” is a work of art in his opinion.

“What I’ve tried to accomplish, like, is making art products … so I still believe that (the song) can be classified as art because it’s an original piece and the edge and alternative is there, and the integrity is intact,” said Cee-Lo.

Although Cee-Lo wasn’t worried about radio play when “Fuck You” was initially released the song will in fact be put in rotation on radio stations across the country. The radio-friendly version of “Fuck You” will be titled “Forget You.”

“It wasn’t like we were looking for it to be a radio hit of some sort,” Cee-Lo explained. “It was only until a short time after that we considered doing a clean version just in case.”

Cee-Lo’s solo album The Lady Killer will be released on December 7.

    1. this song is terrible. i like Cee-Lo but calling a song fuck you is so gimmicky and trite and well beneath his talent.

    2. The phrase “FUCK YOU”, is probably one of the most common used phases of all times lol. So why is Cee-Lo above saying Fuck You? He’s a human being. Trust me, this man’s a genius and i think he’s at his prime musically, which is amazing because he’s been in the game for 16 years.

    3. Mannn come on – everybody know cee-lo strays from the norm. this shit is so fukn nice – i mean come on, you aint never wanna tell a chick str8 up “FUCK YOU!!” i like the track.

    4. The radio friendly version will get plenty spins. Although the original version is straight to the point. the words ‘forget you’ is still in the right context of the song.

Great work Cee-lo, I’m really inspired by the music you put out that doesn’t fall under the formulaic and predictable songs we hear time and time again.

    5. Feelin it. We all feelin it and if you some pretty boy that don’t get it, then F*ck You… Cee-Lo — nice work getting to the heart. Tru artist.
