In a historic and seismic referendum that holds far-reaching consequences for countries right across the globe, the United Kingdom has voted in favour of leaving the European Union four decades after it first joined in 1973.
The UK electorate voted 51.9% in favor of leaving the EU, while 48.1% voted to remain a member of the politico-economic union. In a vote that saw its highest turnout since the UK’s 1992 general election, over 17.4 million people voted to leave the EU, while 16.1 million opted to remain.
The debate was hard-fought on both sides, with the Leave camp focusing their arguments on immigration and sovereignty, while the Remain side focused the majority of their arguments around the economy and a “better together” attitude.
After the decision for “Brexit” was confirmed at around 07:30 local time (02:30 EST, 23:30 PST) today (June 24), the UK Prime Minister, David Cameron — who has been a very public supporter of the Remain campaign — announced that he will stand down as the leader of the Conservative Party, with the hope of a new Prime Minister being in office by early October.
It’s worth noting that no nation state has ever left the European Union before, leaving many politicians and commentators questioning the true ramifications of the “Brexit” vote.
Nigel Farage, one of the leading figureheads of the Vote Leave campaign, hailed the verdict as the UK’s “independence day.”
A multitude of politicians from across the globe have offered their reaction to the news, including President Barack Obama, who this morning released a statement regarding the referendum’s verdict. During the months leading up to yesterday’s vote, Obama was vocal in his support of the UK remaining a member of the European Union. Elsewhere, both the presumptive Republican nominee, Donald Trump, and the likely Democratic Party nominee, Hillary Clinton, have issued statements addressing the UK’s decision to leave the EU.
Likewise, various members of the Hip Hop community have flocked to their social media accounts to offer their thoughts on “Brexit.”
Hip hop supposedly founded to go against “the system” and speaking truth to Power but actually alot of times is about supporting fascist/socialist Big Government (e.g. unelected Eurocrats in an overcomplex system making $300k a year in Brussels making undemocratic decisions for their whole continent. Centralized, undemocratic government power by wealthy aristocratic elites is not the cause of a rebellious movement that speaks truth to the powerful status quo.
Dope! And very well said. I feel you son. Respect bro!
Eh i agree with the u.k for breaking away europes been slowly sinking itself with its corruption and they dont want to go down with them just like us as the united states we broke off from the british before founding the united states think what we would be today without doing that? And we broke off from them for wanting to tax us to death and keep up the whole corrupt king and queen system and putting classes and labels on people with minimal rights while being taxed to death alot like what europe does to the u.k it just reaches in there pockets and resources and expects them to bend over backwards with nothing to give in exchange…good for the u.k yea it might fuck up the economy for a little while but in the long run its going to do good gotta break a few eggs to make an omlette right?
It’s not really comparable to the US breaking away from England though. The UK wasn’t ‘under rule’ of the EU, they had to follow a number of laws, like all countries in the EU, in order to trade with one another. The UK isn’t going to stop being a trade partner with the EU, but will now need to renegotiate on every single trade aspect, which could end up costing them more in the long run.
Yea its definetly different i was just using it as an example…cause think if we wouldnt of done what we did we would not be anywhere near what we are today so just think for the U.K 240 years from now how much more succesful it will be by being able to control its own resources and trade deals rather than having to OK everything with the EU i think its going to be a psoitive direction and your probably right at this point it will probably crash thete economy with trade deals and jobs being halted but once it recover or if it pulls thru well then it will be more succesful and independant than ever before
240 years?!!!! Last one to jump is s rotten egg.
I went to college in the UK a few years back. On more than one occasion, on the tube, train or a bus, I saw someone from Britan lash out at foreigners in an insane Rascist rant. The type of shit that would get you lunches in the US. Shut like “You foreigners need to go back to your country. You are destroying the UK. Get out. Etc”. In a 2 year timespan I must have seen this happen a dozen times. I began to pay attention. I would say 70% of the people on public transportation, at the University and where I worked where foreigners. For those who are unaware, if you are a member of the EU, you could move to Enhland legally and work. You would earn in £ versus the weaker €. I think certain EU countries where excluded. Lots of these people where from Poland, Russia and other former USSR countries. I personally didn’t see what the beef was, but my British friends where and still are SERIOUSLY pissed off about it. SMH. Oh well.
Just where in London did you experience that racism or see it on public transport? I use transport almost daily and have yet to see any racism (I’m in the South and frequent central). Yeah it’s happened with that tram woman very near where I live but we can’t just generalise those who support leaving the EU as bigots and racists when the EU is costing us more than its benefitting us.
El-P needs to educate himself. Britain doesn’t need European rap3fugees flooding our borders and that idiot going on about bigotry must think the BNP/NF are coming into power. We’ll do just fine without Brussels’ octopus grip.
I didn’t read El-P’s tweets as anything but trying to be funny.
Doesn’t the UK now need to renegotiate every form of trade with the EU though? I can’t imagine their biggest trading partners will now just let the UK do whatever the fuck they want with no laws in place.
Will the money spent on becoming a trade partner w/ the EU outweigh the cost of leaving the EU? Asking, not telling. Polls were showing that the majority of the people who voted for this were the uneducated, while those with degrees from Universities strongly opposed.
In other words, it would be like Trumps demographic voting on US economic decisions when most of them don’t even realize what a global economy is. They just like to regurgitate “Muslims = Bad guys”.
in an event surprising nobody, rappers haven’t been paying attention and have no idea what they’re talking about.
#myopinion……….. Team work is good, think twice before you leave. Its nice of them leaving but there are implication .#theyshouldn’ttakeaquickdecision
Who cares? Why are these americans trying to dictate other countries politics?
Stupid fuck, obviously you don’t know shit or have any type of wealth . So yrs to you it don’t mean shit
As a Hungarian guy I only hope Brits will give all the East-European workers the boot and the angy, unemployed masses will hang the n.a.z.i. Hungarian prime minister on the first tree.
Don’t think any of those tweeters have any clue what the Brexit was actually about.
“All the migrants have to leave! This is our country! They destroy our culture!”
(Colony of) Kenya, 1955
What is this supposed to mean? You talking about the Mau Mau uprising? That was about independence, not leaving a politico-economic union. And yes, the British did destroy our culture and it is our country but one of the first things President Kenyatta did, which was kinda wack of him by the way, was consistently ask white settlers not to leave Kenya and was known to support reconciliation. Kenya has NEVER had a problem with immigrants. Heck, we are rumored to be hiding a Rwandese mass murderer to this day and worship almost all foreigners!!! Anyway, was just wondering what that comment had to do with Brexit. So far, it remains to be seen whether it will affect the Kenyan economy. Its all wait and see here.

Smart move Britain il be investing in the pound
Hmmmm……so no one here what is going on, but I do please this all mix facts and history that make my outcome about debates. First I got to say with the Numbers…MONEY in economics where the class and the Rich who control the economy and our today day to day affairs are at War it’s called Currency Wars!! Based on the cold war era strategys, the rich in the east vs the Rich in the west (China, the US,Europe, Russia, and other rich hiding places) and the Fall in the today Someone is very Beneficial to them in this crash and the 2007 crashes but this not the end more coming and Revealing in the next few weeks but you got to Research the Hidden part of the economy… like Price of GOLD
The Second thing facts that came out in the WIKILEAKS and Edward Snowden and the Panama Leaks for the last few years is a factor in all this and connected all the way up,as in GF3 alPacino said “The Higher I Get The More CURUPTED It Gets” thats a fact came out from the old man Gambino as they deal from the FEDs to the CIA or the Catholic church to the “Illuminated” or the “Masonic”, in WW2 it was the in was at wars and some one somewhere was benefiting at the time and was giving the money and loaning it to both sides, what you see on tv from Trump to Obama are players and not in charge as you see the UK Pm David Camron has resigned but before he was the one made it all happened was a keyplayer as he wanted to leave the E.U at first but changed his mind or asked him to!??!
There’s more that we don’t know but don’t forget it’s job to keep the “top secrets” to stay off the grids… like Isay your not fucking with the mafia …Your FUCKING with the GOVERMENT and the Ultra Rich.
What I just text got riddle. ..truth is in the middle. .behave thinking make you peddle.
Rich all these rappers calling peoples opinion racist, bigotry & Trump like… American do their own trading isn’t that what UK want run their own laws… EU isn’t nothing new Adolf tried installing that before Windows One was even thought about!
