Big Sean Feels His “Control” Verse “Was Harder” Than Kendrick Lamar’s

In the wake of the release of Big Sean’s Kendrick Lamar and Jay Electronica-assisted “Control,” numerous emcees have stepped forward to share their thoughts on the record, whether they voiced their opinion via Twitter or took a more first-hand approach and released their own lyrical response to the lengthy cut.

Big Sean, the rapper behind the song’s creation, finally disclosed his thoughts on “Control” as he spoke specifically on Kendrick Lamar’s verse and even his own lyrical addition to the song during an interview with Vibe.com.

According to the G.O.O.D. Music emcee, whose verse kicks off “Control,” his verse on the song was “harder” lyrically than both Kendrick and Jay Electronica’s. And prior to speaking on his addition to the song, Big Sean commented on Kendrick’s namedropping when asked if he was at all nervous due to the numerous artists called out.

“Nah, I don’t think it’s nervous. Because I know it’s Hip Hop, it’s a sport,” Big Sean revealed. “I think it should get back to being competitive…It’s like we all young G’s. We all people who came up. We got respect for each other. So, like I said, I ain’t no ho ass nigga like that to hear a verse like that and then be like ‘Oh, I gotta go back and [rewrite] my shit. Oh, I gotta protect myself.’ You know what I’m saying? It’s like nah, it is what it is. I’m a good ass rapper. Big Sean got bars…Listen to everything. Listen to ‘Control.’ I feel like my verse was harder.”

During his interview with Vibe.com, Big Sean also made it clear that he did not change his verse on “Control” after hearing Kendrick’s.

“But when I heard that verse I was like ‘Man, I’m not about to go back and change my verse. That’s cheating’…I could go back, change it. Make it this. I could namedrop. You know, I could do this. I could cut his verse up, but that ain’t the way of a OG,” said the Hall Of Fame rapper. “You know what I’m saying? That ain’t how G’s move. And I wanted to do that for the culture of Hip Hop. For the culture of rap as opposed to myself. Like tryna protect myself.”

Unfortunately for fans of the nearly eight-minute long record, “Control” will not be featured on Big Sean’s sophomore album due to sample issues. According to Big Sean, he could have either delayed the release of Hall Of Fame in the hopes that the sample would be cleared or he could pass up on featuring the record on the album altogether and instead release it to fans separately.

“I wanted it to be a part of the album, but unfortunately weak shit happens all the time. It happened on my first album and this is one of the songs I really made an effort to make good and I wanted to have a snapping ass song, eight-minute song on my album,” he explained. “So, the sample, they was like ‘Yo, basically it came down to you either gonna have to push your shit back to have this song or we gonna try and figure the sample out.’ Or you know I was like ‘Fuck it, I’ll hold it.’ But then I was like I can’t hold this song. It’s something special, so I just dropped it…I knew what it was for the culture of Hip Hop.”

Hall Of Fame is currently set for release on August 27.

    1. hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha best joke of the day, dude needs to get off that crapper from his album cover n start to actually make sense….

    2. he did not say that! matter of fact he said Kendrick was harder. hhdx don’t lie..it looks bad. people would’ve wanted to know what Sean thought anyway. promotin beef that aint even real. not a good look.

    3. If it WAS the best verse, then the internet would be exploding about you…and not Kendrick…but they’re not…and you probably did change your verse…and you know it…and you still got bodied…but didn’t want to get ethered like Hov did on The Blueprint.

      It’s OK tho.

      1. The only reason everybodies talking about Kendrick’s verse is cause of the name dropping. I still think his verse is the best, but Sean killed it also. BTW Joell Ortiz BODIED it!

    4. Sean has the most hate from a nice artist I seen on this site and it’s pretty sad, a dude that spit comical and REAL shit, his bars about his grandad and about the hottest rappers were some quotable shit but Hip Hop fans just wanna hate a person without truly listening to the verse smh

    5. what the fuck is this lil shrimp nigga doing sittin in front of the barbell like that??? guarantee he aint lifting half of that thing! i seen him on breakfast club he cant barely do a few pushup and not even a legit ones!

    6. G, YOU SHOULD OF MOVED TO THE LEFT CUZ YOUR VERSE WAS NOT RIGHT WITH KDOT VERSE ON THE TRACK. HAHAHA YOUNGSTAS.. I LIKE SEAN VERSE THO. SHOULD OF HAD DRAK AND YEZZY .. SMH WRONG MOVE..

    7. Don’t worry, fella. Neither verse was any good. People are only making a big deal out of it because they’ve become accustomed to the weak-ass shit you all have been dropping the last years and are taken away when something better than aforementioned crap gets dropped.

    8. In all Fairness, Kendrick had the weakest lyrically he just called put names and that’s what got his verse attention. I liked Electronica’s better, Then Big Sean and Kendrick. But Flow wise Kendrick had a Nice Flow. Still Sounds like Elmer Fudd tho.

    9. Big sean there is no way you can out rap drake and jay-z you suck. Also kendrick lamar killed it on control his verse was better than yours.

      1. @me

No, delusional is accurate. It means a false belief. Delirium is a medical condition where you’re all confused and disoriented. Shit, I think Smedium Shawn is both.

    10. At least finally there’s rappers in the limelight that sound like they are actually trying to rap, and not just running with an image and using beats as a crutch. Say what you want about uber lyrical rappers not having good beats, I’m sure they know but that’s the challenge(to sound dope on any beat given). The wack rappers NEED that hot beat, features and image to hide their flaws, it’s like if Tony Romo went to a different team, he would get cut.

    11. Big Sean is Big Caca….his voice is wack, his lyrics are wack he doesnt need to be doing any colabos that show off his wack ass rhymes from Click to this…stay in your lane and rhyme with TPain dude!!!

    12. what this sumbitch doesn’t know is someone already cut him out of the track on youtube and left Kendrick and Jay Elec, and even that freestyle is blowing up so Sean doeesn’t know what the fuck he’s on, bow down nigga ain’t nobody talkin about your shit

    13. Big Sean’s verse is ill but so is Kendrick’s verse. I give them a tie based on substance and lyrcial prowess.

    14. Big Seans verse (3) and Jay’s verse (2) werent garbage. Its just that Kendricks verse (1) was a wake up call to the whole industry. He is killing the 10 same rappers on every song circlejerk and yes I recognize the irony.

    15. Big Sean must include “Control” on the album even if it means pushing it back! It’s fire!

    16. When he said he has a harder verse on the Control song, he must have meant Janet Jackson’s “Control” song. #Delusional…

    17. Like we need Smedium Shawn to tell us whose verse was harder. If your verse was harder then how come Phil Jackson ain’t tweetin you?

    18. On what planet? I mean Sean & Jay Elec’s verses were good, but they got SERVED by Kendrick. Sean needs to be a little more honest with himself

      1. It took Kdot days to write that???? Ortiz decapitated all of them just off the principle he responded in less than an hour. All trhee of em got smoked up by the Rican.

      2. Ortiz was nice, but he used K.dots flow, subject matter and actual words, in places. So what ur saying is not relevant.

Kendrick killed that beat. Sean is average rapper at best.

    19. Why is this narrow ass dude sittin beside some weights? Im assuming thats supposed to be some clever oxymoron. Hes about as corny visually as he is lyrically.

    20. my classmate’s ex-wife makes $64/hour on the laptop. She has been fired from work for nine months but last month her income was $17286 just working on the laptop for a few hours. Read more on this site ..>>> http://xurl.es/i11cz

    21. This cat is delusional if he thinks his verse is better than Kendrick’s. K Dot killed him on his own shit, plan & simple.

    22. Big Seans full of shit for sure he added the Flame dropping/ name dropping lines after he heard Kendricks verse

    23. Honestly, I though Jay Elec went harder than both of them. Look up his lyrics for that verse, he didn’t call anyone out, but his verse was masterful.

    24. Why the fuck are yawl mad at Big Sean? Can he not have confidence in himself? Dude is nice. And thanks to him, Control is out.

    25. lying through his teeth about the sampling issues and not changing his verse. kanye will change a verse, jigga will change a verse, everybody does when they’re getting outshined. they don’t let it happen because they’re not idiots and they probably don’t play make believe with themselves and their friends in the studio about being an “original gangster”. they are what they are and they’re artists. half the shit he says doesn’t interest me and the other half makes me lose respect, he can’t play it fuckin’ straight.

the point i’m driving at is.. “a lot of niggas PR stuntin’ like that’s the movement..”

    26. Kendricks was just an angry rap (not saying it wasnt good)… but if he doesn’t mention anybody in the verse is everyone still feeling his verse like they are?? No.

      1. Yeah they would, he still had the “King of New York” line that still would’ve got crazy attention. It was a dope verse stop hating…

    27. This guy is an idiot, he is full of himself..his verse is not even in the same room with kendricks..big sean is not a dope lyricist but he was witty punch lines..he is not in the same category as k dot thats for sure he needs to realize that quick

    28. Nobody even listened to the words. Youre all hype beast fools. Because he called out big name niggas and told them to step their game up..that means hes in a position to so so??? Just because he did thathes competitionto fuckin meek mill?

Eat a FATTTTTT dick. He did that shit for hype and hes getting it because half the world and 99% of you people, are hype beasts who will DICK RIDE FOR DAYS, just because its a popular thing to talk about. I hope every person gets shot in the face that says anything like this was the verse of the year or that hes the hottest/best in hip hopor that he is re inventing hip hop’ or bringing real hip hop back. Get shot in your fucking face please. Too many people are rich because of having the attention of the intellectually challenged.

    29. Big Sean is really feelin himself lately and honestly while he says some dope stuff every so often, he is delusional about his skill..what he thinks are dope punches and bars are average at best…im sorry but its just the reality…all these new niggas think they are nicer than they are…including K.Dot…Schoolboy is nicer than K.Dot and will prove it on his album!

    30. This the problem with Hiphop collabs, everyone wanna have a better verse, but then it doesn’t sound like 1 song at the end of the day. Maybe they should stop marketing Hiphop as music, more like spoken word or sum shits

    31. LMAO at this headline! OK, first you thought about changing your verse, but now it’s “harder” than Kendrick’s. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

He’s just mad cuz NOBODY is talking about him, and it’s his song! I’ve even seen sites just post Kendrick’s verse alone, Big Sean Kendrick murdered you on your own shit.
