Big Scarr‘s family has reportedly confirmed that the New 1017 Records artist died from an apparent accidental overdose as fans have speculated online.
According to TMZ, the rapper’s uncle Arthur Woods has revealed that Big Scarr was at his girlfriend’s home in Memphis when he died on Thursday (December 22) after ingesting a lethal amount of prescription pills. The relative did not specify what medication was taken specifically, nor whether the drugs had been prescribed to Scarr directly.
Arthur Woods also told the outlet that his nephew, who had survived a car accident in 2016 and a shooting in 2020, was battling depression in part due to the death of his grandmother.
An official cause of death has yet to be released, nor have details emerged about when or how Big Scarr’s body was found. Upon confirming that he had been found unresponsive, authorities in Memphis indicated that, while they were investigating his death, they did not suspect foul play.
On Friday (December 23), fellow 1017 artist Enchanting — who Scarr referred to as his best friend in social media posts — shared a heartbreaking tribute to the young artist, revealing that she had spoken to the 22-year-old hours before he passed away.
“I just talked to him earlier yesterday & I’m so thankful for that phone call he told me see you soon & I love you and then words replay in my head all day,” she wrote in the long caption. “You promised me you wouldn’t leave me like this… I’m loss for words. We was so close it was always us! I ain’t stopped crying yet.. I miss you already [broken heart emojis] I love you! Gone keep your name alive till it’s my time!”
News of the Big Scarr’s death began circulating on social media around 7:00 p.m. EST on Thursday (December 22). Gucci Mane later confirmed his passing in an Instagram post, writing, “This hurt [crying emoji] I’m a miss you @bigscarr [broken heart emoji],” alongside a carousel of photos of Big Scarr.
Born Alexander Woods, the Memphis rapper made his commercial debut on The New 1017 compilation album Gucci Mane Presents: So Icy Summer in July 2020 with “SoIcyBoyz” alongside labelmates Pooh Shiesty and Foogiano; and the solo track “Make A Play.” Scarr held the distinction of being one of only three artists to appear on a track alone across the entire project.
Big Scarr appeared on one more 1017 compilation, So Icy Gang, Vol. 1, before releasing his debut mixtape, 2021’s Big Grim Reaper, which went on to peak at the No. 25 position on Billboard’s Hot 200 album chart and No. 1 on Rolling Stone’s Breakthrough 25 Chart.
Big Grim Reaper also earned the newcomer his first Gold certification by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA), and set the tone for accolades to come in 2022.
Following the release of Big Grim Reaper: The Return in February, Big Scarr landed a spot in the coveted 2022 XXL Freshman Class, thanks the support of fans who voted for him to be the list’s 10th featured artist.
In November, Big Scarr announced that he was scheduled to appear at Rolling Lound LA in March, which would have marked his second time performing at the traveling festival after having hit the stage at Rolling Loud New York in September.
Earlier this month, he also announced his first national tour, opening for Key Glock on his Glockoma Tour, which is set to kick off on March 5.
Most of these kids have PTSD that’s why they’ve been on percs since high-school. We need better funding for inner-city counseling.
Nobody would attend that. What needs to be stopped is this stupid hip-hop music that only promotes drug dealing, drug consumption, killing, hoeing.
Disband the police and use the saved money to give taxpayers more access to counselling, drug treatment and give back the rest of the savings in tax breaks to tax payers. Learn to use the second amendment to protect yourself and Smaller government is better. In Nigeria, we have no police and who ever was armed the best runs the streets and there is almost no violence.
If a classmate dies in a car wreck in middle class areas they have grief counselors to support the kids. People get killed in poor areas and the school shoulder shrugs. Of course a sheltered kid like yourself has no idea how the system keeps poor people of all races at a disadvantage.
Tell that to Boko Haram.
Fuck all the ones on the last article who were talking about being glad he was dead because they jumped to the conclusion that he was involved in a shootout and shot. People like y’all will burn in the afterlife.
The hate is self grandoisity because they feel so inferior deep down inside. To Love others is to suffer pain for themselves so they choose hate to selfishly feel comfort in their own grandoisity. Its not human nature its the nature of demons.
Ni99a Scumbag should’ve instead killed himself with a gun or jumped off a building into incoming traffic!
Lmfao bro, you don’t need to censor the n word. We know how much of a waste of sperm you are.
Dude has the courage to be racist but not enough to say the n word with the soft a. What a coward.
Say bro yo daddy should of shot yo ass on the ground instead of inside yo momma…he should of wasted yo ass in her mouth…lmao

80% of kids wouldn’t be fkin around with pills and other shit if it wasn’t for their friends. Life is short, quit trying to ruin the one chance you get to live to feel like your half dead! R.I.P to homie
Drug Dealers buy jordans and crack heads buy crack and the white man gets paid out of all of that.
