Big K.R.I.T. wants his fans and more to enter the new year with a high energy level thanks to the new track he released titled “Birthday Song.”

The Mississippi native unleashed the new song on Sunday (January 1), right in time for the holiday. The two-minute song finds Big K.R.I.T rapping over a bounce-inspired production with hints of crunk and more elements of southern Hip Hop.

In his Instagram post, K.R.I.T. called up all the Capricorns to start the birthday party off right with the new track.

“We gonna start this year off right! Happy Birthday From Me To You! Capricorns you’re up first… Let’s Go,” he wrote, teasing there could be even more birthday-themed records this year.

“Birthday Song” is Big K.R.I.T’s first offering since he dropped “Extra Credit” in August. He also released his most recent album Digital Roses Don’t Die, in 2022, which had 17 songs and a single feature from Rolynné.

K.R.I.T. also joined forces with Wiz Khalifa, Smoke DZA, and Girl Talk for their collaborative album, Full Court Press which had 10 songs in total with Curren$y as the lone feature on the project.

In an interview on Spotify’s RapCaviar Podcast, Wiz Khalifa said K.R.I.T. is on the verge of winning a Grammy and praised his latest album, Digital Roses Don’t Die.

“I feel like K.R.I.T.’s gonna win a Grammy soon,” Wiz said. “Like really, really soon. People are gonna start to tap in and realize how talented he is and how multi all-over-the-place he is.”

He added: “His last project was crazy. He’s gonna win a fucking Grammy. Everything is gonna happen when it’s supposed to.”

In an interview with HipHopDX, K.R.I.T. credited his longevity to his relentlessly positive energy.

“You start to realize people are creating memories with you, and you’re creating memories with them,” he said. “You’re able to talk about these things and engage. And the hug means so much. The positive energy you need, it gives you that motivation to continue to write and to continue to make music.

“And I just feel blessed, brother, that throughout these years people not only seen me rap or make music, but I’m still connecting. It’s crazy.”

2023 is shaping out to be a celebratory year for Big K.R.I.T. as he’ll be celebrating the tenth anniversary of his 2013 mixtape, King Remembered In Time.
