British artist Banksy, who has used his contemporary art to highlight several issues including wealth inequality and other political issues, has now taken to social media to show support for the Black Lives Matter movement.
On Saturday (June 6), the artist shared an image of a black silhouette in a picture frame surrounded by candles, one of which has lit the edge of the United States flag on fire.
“People of colour are being failed by the system,” the enigmatic artist wrote on Instagram. “The white system. Like a broken pipe flooding the apartment of the people living downstairs. The faulty system is making their life a misery, but it’s not their job to fix it. They can’t, no one will let them in the apartment upstairs.”
He added, “This is a white problem. And if white people don’t fix it, someone will have to come upstairs and kick the door in.”
Banksy’s piece is another in a long list of artistic creations that have emerged since the May 25 police killing of George Floyd.
Run The Jewels released RTJ4 early and for free as riots and protests continue to erupt all over the globe. The proceeds of Trey Songz’s latest release, “2020 Riots,” will go to Black Lives Matter and the National Bail Fund.
Fucking cuck
If a call to end police brutality brings fetish sex to mind, you got issues man. But do you. There are websites for that. This isnt one of them.
Oh please! Who glorifies baby mamas, absent dads, gangs, drugs, drug dealing lol! Blacks. How much longer are you weak people going to blame the white race? I’m Hispanic and have no problem calling out the trouble makers. I don’t know how any white people can be on the BLM side. Look at their website and they declare they are anti-family as in the traditional sense. They want to take youth and radicalize them making them losers dependent on the cult of BLM. Only an idiot would support that hate group.
your such a ignorant mind to think such a way, maybe you need a knee in your neck to feel a deep rooted pain, the haters taught hate get it straight…
You’re absolutely right. The original haters, European colonizers who destroyed an entire community and appointed themselves owners… most certainly set the precedent for the kind of hate and violence that would follow. Bravo for making my point.
But you wanna point to rap music. Ok, guy.
I think you owe it to yourself to research Americas history or redlining, real estate and economic oppression. Maybe you didnt know black people were barred from buying land. Maybe you didnt know black people were barred from education. Maybe you weren’t aware black leaders were killed by FBI. Ill give you benefit o that doubt. It might help you connect the dots about the influence of white oppression. Its right there for anyone to see. Your anger is misguided. How do you point out the trouble makers when everything we see is built by them? Just sayin. This isn’t about one case or one protest or one senseless murder. Do yourself the favor to gain a better understanding.
So a white hispanic who listens to rappers talk about drugs and gangs giving a lecture about BLM supposedly gloryfing the same thing lol. Shut yo ass up puto.
Only people Black Lives Matter would preach about supporting black owned businesses right after smashing and looting them.
BLM does not loot, my friend. That would be antithetical to the entire movement. There are some specific individuals using this time to cause chaos. In other words, perhaps its “a few bad apples”. Or does that excuse only apply to police brutality?
It’s interesting that you brought up bad apples. I actually agree it’s a tired excuse. But what is the crux of BLMs beef with the police? They’re not holding each other accountable to the principles they claim. BLM aren’t any different unfortunately. Whenever I’ve spoke to anyone who claims BLM about specific issues that they’re causing, the answer had always been that I don’t have empathy, I’m racist or I just don’t understand. I’ve never had an answer that acknowledges and condemns these people’s behaviour and that’s the main thing that causes a lot of friction. Because seriously, as one human to another… How can you expect me to watch protesters throw bricks at horses, destroy and desecrate war memorials and smash up local businesses and not condemn it… Then get told I lack empathy. I read about a black man’s pizza place being destroyed by rioters and under normal circumstances he’d never recover (we’re still under lockdown rules). Luckily a few artists bailed him out but then on the same page I see Anthony Joshua preaching black lives matter and that black people should use their money to patronise black owned business. I want the black community to get an equal footing. I want murderous cops to be face with the consequences of their actions. And I want the media to report everything honestly and with equal weight. From one human being to another, is it really okay to justify one form of toxicity over another when most of the damage is collateral and not aimed at the people that deserve it?
I appreciate the time you’ve taken to respond. Respectfully. Id like to point out our common ground first. It seems you agree “bad apples” is a sorry excuse. We seem to agree murderous cops need to be brought to justice. We also seem to agree that damaging property or causing pain to anyone, is not the answer. We seem to agree two wrongs don’t make a right. And it really SHOULD end there. Because it appears you are actually support THE REASON WHY PEOPLE ARE protesting. (Protesting, not rioting or looting. There is a difference. You know this) We actually agree on the WHY.
However the HOW is what you seem to take issue with. To that I say, this is not new. Frankly, if the demands were heeded sooner, it wouldn’t have to get to this point. For example. Peaceful protests has not worked. They assassinated Ghandi and MLK. Militant, armed demonstration hasn’t worked. They killed Malcolm X. You may also remember when in the 80s (not long ago at all) police bombed a Philly suburb, filled with women and children mind you… just to succumb the MOVE organization. Women and children, friend. Recently, even quietly kneeling as protest was met with incredible vitriol. So I ask, what is LEFT?
We may not agree on the HOW. But again I say, if only the message of change was listened to SOONER, it wouldn’t push people to these limits when they stop caring about material objects or property. I ask, have you been this vocal about the actual MURDERS these protests have originated from? Or have you only been vocal about the property damage? If so, its kind of the point isn’t it? Perhaps a better place to start is when peoples lives cause as much concern and outrage as property damage.
