A$AP Rocky has given his most solid update on his oft-delayed album Don’t Be Dumb to date, and it looks like it really might finally land soon.

The recently-acquitted rap star spoke with GQ in a new interview published on Friday (February 28).

“I’m in the mixing and mastering realm of it, but I think quite frankly, people are tired of hearing about updates about the album,” he admitted. “They’re just ready to get this shit, you know what I’m saying? I don’t think anybody wants to hear where I’m at with it, how far is it along and all that. They just want to hear some shit just to see where I’m at, and I promise I got some new shit in store. I’m challenging myself. It’s like anything, I approach it with a different tactic, degree, or finesse.”

He continued: “The album’s done. I just want to drop it. I don’t want to keep saying what I’m going to do and I want to give people what I’ve been promising them for a long-ass fucking time.”

The album initially had a release date of August 30 of last year before being delayed to an unspecified fall date – and it still has yet to arrive.

Don’t Be Dumb will serve as his first album in six years and the follow up to his third LP Testing, which arrived to mixed reviews in 2018.

On Tuesday (February 25), a new snippet of the Harlem rapper going in on a Metro Boomin beat made its rounds – and he’s referencing the trial in his bars, so it’s likely to be newly-recorded.

He raps: “I wear Armani to court, your honor/Look like John Gotti in court, your honor.”

It’s unclear if that will land on the album, however, but it’s clear he’s in all systems go mode following his trial.

After kicking off on January 24, A$AP Rocky’s gun trial for allegedly shooting A$AP Relli in November 2021 came to a close after nearly three weeks on February 14. The jury gathered to deliberate on February 18 and after around three hours, they came to a conclusion.

Days after he received the verdict, Ray-Ban revealed Rocky as their first-ever creative director in a press release on Friday (February 21). In his role, he will oversee design on various releases – the first of which is a reimagining of some of their signature frames.
