Ari Lennox has revealed she wants out of her contract with J. Cole’s Dreamville and Interscope Records.
Taking to Twitter on Sunday (January 23), the singer made clear her desire to be “free” after signing a deal with Cole’s label in 2015 and releasing her 2019 debut album Shea Butter Baby.
“I want to be dropped from the labels,” she wrote. “I’m done and tired.”
She also replied to a fan, “Shut up! The interview was the icing on the cake. I want to be free.”
The interview in question is Ari Lennox’s recent appearance on Podcast and Chill when the host asked, “Is someone fucking you good right now?” while referring to her song “Pop.” The singer showed discomfort with the question and later claimed she’s quitting interviews altogether.
“And I’m never doing another interview again,” she wrote in a since-deleted tweet. “I been on this sober high for weeks. Genuine gratefulness and happiness. But then… men. Every time… never fails.”
Just days ago, Dreamville congratulated Ari Lennox on being nominated for Outstanding Female Artist of the Year at the NAACP Image Awards. Following comments about her label situation, she went on to talk about people being annoyed by her tweets.
“For Christ sakes,” she said. “I realize I have no hits. I realize you all can live without hearing my music. I realize my complaining is so aggravating to y’all. I don’t ask blogs to post me when I’m at my worst. You judgemental self hating parasites wouldn’t last a day as a signed artist.”

She continued, “Complaining that I’m complaining about the shit I’m going through meanwhile in real life you’re just as unhappy just as fucked up. You crying in the car too. Somebody calling you insensitive and dramatic too. You could never be honest about your demons.”
Earlier in the week, Ari Lennox also shared some thoughts on social media and explained why she deletes her tweets.
“sm is a traumatizing unhealthy place,” she wrote. “You are only accepted here if your perfect and seemingly happy at all times. When every single life knows that’s not realistic. People cry, people complain, people are mad in real life. I just never cared to be a fake ass bitch.”
She added, “No one is ‘bullying me’ into deleting my tweets. I had enough of giving clout to losers. And sometimes I just like a clean slate. I’ve been this way all my life. And when I said I felt like this was my karma. I’m aware I’ve said some incredibly insensitive and dumb ass shit in the past. No need to keep reminding me of the regret I feel every day.”

social media is not a place to be “real”. as an artist it should simply be a tool for promotion. when you fuse your “real” life with who you are as an artist without boundaries there’s no distinction to the fans, so you can’t blame them for not recognizing your humanity when you’re marketed to them as a product. shorty should just focus on making good music. i think she’d be a lot happier.
