Akon recently spoke about his new album, Freedom, and let fans know they should expect a new sound from him.
“We changed the sound up a lot,” said the Senegalese artist to Billboard.com. “Everyone adapted to the ‘Konvict’ sound already,
so we had to switch it up. Now we’re bringing the whole Euro-club
sound. That’s where we’re headed with it.“
This change in style is exemplified by the single, “Right Now (Na Na Na)” which is currently No. 18 on Billboard’s Pop 100 cart.
Fans needn’t worry, however, as Akon will still have the street sound on some tracks, such as “I’m So Paid” featuring Lil Wayne and Young Jeezy. Also featured on the album are Kardinal Offishal, Colbie O’Donis and others.
In support of the album, Akon plans a 10-to-12 city promotional tour one week before the album releases, as well as an official tour in February.
Currently, he has been producing, performing or writing with a slew of artists, including Lady Gaga, Kat De Luna, Lionel Richie, Lil Wayne, Ludacris, 50 Cent, Whitney Houston and Michael Jackson.
