Reality shows seem to come up more frequently than ever before. The latest rapper with a reality show will be MC Hammer. The “Can’t Touch This” star is slated to be the focal point of a new series on A&E, along with his family.
Today, the network announced that they will be filming 11 episodes of the show, which will be titled “Hammertime.”
“MC Hammer is an iconic figure in American pop culture but many people only know him for his music and fashion sense, now A&E takes an unprecedented look behind his larger-than-life personality and into his life as a devoted husband, father and business entrepreneur,” noted Robert Sharenow, a senior vice president at A&E. “‘Hammertime‘ truly captures the intimate, funny and genuine moments that resonate with our viewers and underscore the essence of our brand.”
The show is said to be an unscripted family program.
“Here’s a dad with five kids, married to the same woman for more than 23 years, living in the same place where he grew up and going to church every Sunday,” executive producer J.D. Roth said, according to Reuters. “He’s had his ups and downs, and it’s what makes him such a character you root for.”
The cast, as described by the network, will be as follows:
“The Hammer brood consists of: daughter Akieba, 21, a senior at University of Texas and opera, pop and soul singer; nephew Jamarius, 18, a talented football player; daughter Sarah, 15, an aspiring fashion designer and singer; Stanley Jr., 13, aka Boobie, who is following in his father’s dancing footsteps; nephew Meschek, 12, a talented musician and athlete; Jeremiah, 10, a skateboarding daredevil and avid video gamer; and America’s next top baby, 3-year old Samuel, the angel of the bunch.”
The show is in production and will hit television screens later this year.
