Aaliyah, who tragically passed away in her early 20s, left an indelible mark on culture, and it’s about to be explored in a new ABC News special.

The enigmatic singer captivated the world with her effortless style and remarkable beauty — now, almost 22 years after her death, she’s finally getting the “superstar” treatment she deserves thanks to the forthcoming Superstar: Aaliyah.

The impact Aaliyah has had on music is undeniable, which is why her fans petitioned earlier this year to have her inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.

However, in spite of her not earning the Rock Hall nomination, her fans and friends like Missy Elliott will continue to carry on her legacy.

Back in January, Missy Elliott paid tribute to Aaliyah with a social media post remembering the singer on what would’ve been the late singer’s 44th birthday via Twitter.

In her tweet, the “Gossip Folks” rapper called her friend — who was killed in 2001 in an airplane crash in the Bahamas — a pioneer for being original with her style and music while also calling her a natural are far as acting and fashion goes.
