50 Cent Responds After He’s Left Off Top 10 New York Rappers List

Heralded as the birthplace of Hip Hop, New York City has sprouted a plethora of legendary MCs, including The Notorious B.I.G., Big Daddy Kane, Public Enemy’s Chuck D and Rakim, to name a few. But when it came to a recent Top 10 New York rappers list, Queens native 50 Cent was nowhere to be found.

According to the sometimes rapper-turned-television mogul, there’s a perfectly good explanation. On Friday (November 12), 50 Cent shared a series of photos to his Instagram account, chowing down on a meat, cheese and fruit platter from a private jet.

“They said i’m not in the Top 10 out of New York artist,” he wrote in the caption. “i’m nobody’s favorite, i’m a nightmare for these fools when i focus.”

Right before 50 Cent shared the Instagram photos, he posted a clip of JAY-Z speaking to Power 105.1 FM in which he was retelling a story about trying to warn Memphis Bleek and Beanie Sigel to pump out as music as they could before 50 Cent dropped his.

“Hahaha they should have listened,” he wrote in the caption. “it get hard to shine when i’m around.”

After signing with Eminem, 50 Cent delivered his debut album, Get Rich Or Die Tryin’, in 2003 to critical acclaim. The project debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200, selling over 872,000 copies in its opening week.

Both the singles “In Da Club” and “21 Questions” also landed at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100, while “P.I.M.P.” became a No. 1 hit in several countries. In February 2020, the album was certified 9x-platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) and continues to be named among the best rap albums of all time.

50 Cent struck platinum again in 2005 with The Massacre, which sold over 1.15 million copies in its first four days. Again, the album debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 and was certified 6x-platinum by the RIAA last February as well. 50 Cent’s last official studio album, Animal Ambition, arrived in 2014 but failed to achieve the success of his earlier efforts. He has since shifted his focus to television, producing multiple series for the STARZ network.

    1. Came down here and saw no comments. 50 barely top 50 when you think of NY artists. He rich so the truth shouldn’t even hurt that bad.

      1. GO FLY A KITE LIKE THOMAS EDISON
        MAYBE ,
THEN U WILL BECOME A SUCCESS STORY
G.R.O.D.T AND THE MASSACRE ALBUM CLASSIC #1

        1. Didn’t Fifty acknowledge at one time that he wasn’t a good rapper and that he was just trying to make money. I like his music but he definitely shouldn’t be on that list.

    2. Having some hits and one good album doesn’t put you in the top 10 or even top 40 rappers in NY. Fif has always been a middle of the road rapper. When it comes to who are the best rappers we are not talking about sales and marketing. Fif feeling snubbed just proves yet again he have a very fragile ego.

        1. Go Fly A Kite Like Thomas Edison
Perhaps 0ne Day U Will Become An Honorary Metion A Star 0n Hollywood Walk 0f Fame

          1. Last time I read about it, you actually pay to have a Star. It used to be $1500.

50 is successful for sure, but not top 50

      1. I agree with the one hot album cz massacre only had a few good songs. His sales came from being down with Em. But you can’t deny “Power of the Dollar” that shit is FIRE, all day, e’vryday. I love 50 shit, i anit gonna lie. NY just don’t like 50 like that. He dissed too many artist, had too many beefs with MY artist and he seemed to distance himself from NY like he was a southern or LA artist. I think his f__’d up attitude comes out of the trauma. Being shot 9 times and live, that’ll change a mf

        1. But it’s not even about who he pissed off. This isn’t a list for which rappers get the most love, we are talking about lyrical skill here, I won’t deny that 50 has had some very nice verses but he’s not on the level that the top tier rappers are in terms of skill. There’s no doubt that 50 appeals to a lot of people because of his persona and his rags to riches story, he’s an excellent businessman too…..but let’s not confuse that with actual rapping skill.

          1. G.R.0.D.T INCREDIBLE

    3. A nightmare for anyone when he focuses? What? Dude had one good album, his first, no doubt which had a lot of writing help from Em. Every album since then is garbage. How you follow up Many Men with that candy shop nonsense? I bet Dre wishes he found Game before 50.

        1. Being a success and being in the top 10 greatest rappers in NY are two different things. Nobody is denying Fifty is successful

      1. You’re Obviously NOT from N.Y. Nor Do you know anything About Hip hop. He’s NOT a top ten rapper from here. Biggie jay nas pun kane Krs rakim kool g rap jadakiss ll cool jay ALL OF WU TANG. And i could go on

        1. No way Jada is top 10 NY and definitely not above 50
Skills wise, yeah, but 50 kept NY a force inbhip hop and was one of the hottest rappers for almost 5 years
Legacy, impact, and classic album wise he surpasses Jada; hell: GRODT >>>> the entire LOX discography

That said: 50 is not top 10 NYC rappers……

        2. jada who? lol trippin this man said krs and ll cool jay im appalled how ignorant can one be none of these artist can go hit for hit with 50 besides big and jay

    8. I liked 50 2nd album just as much as the first one. I always like the albums everyone says they hate from rappers. Grand Champ is my favorite Dmx album

    9. People don’t like him because sometimes he’s a jerk, but mainly industry people don’t like him cause he doesn’t follow them. He does sniff behind Jay, Diddy etc he doesn’t feel the need to be in their circle and they don’t like that. He may not be a top 10 rapper from NY but he definitely a ultimate hustler.

    10. LOL 50 Cent aint even top 50. Dude had one good album GRODT. (no claasic) He aint had a hit since 2007. Claims to be a gangsta because he sold a little bit of dope as a child. LOL these rappers nowadays.

      1. First album 9x platinum 2nd album 6x platinum so one good album you sound crazy and all the gunit albums the sounds he gave game on his first album like “how we do” and “hate it or love it” should i go on

    11. what im trying to figure out is, [about] when was that Hov-clip? its obviously clear as day its not recent, cauz he rickin a [totally] different hairstyler nowadays, so when was that [around],,,>?

      1. @??? No, it’s not recent. Jay talking bout memph and Sigel. Not recent at all, obviously, as mentioned. 2000 Era. Like 98 to 2000 I believe.

    12. Fif’s music was very much of it’s time. I can play multiple tracks from Nas, Jay, Rakim, Pun, Big L , Fab, Big, Jada, Aesop Rock and A$ap Rocky and not feel how dated it sounds. His appeal was a giant promotional package including beef, being shot, and everything else besides bars.

      1. your hilarious and out of your mind you mean to tell me rakim, nas and big L have tracks that don’t sound dated?? rakim is very much overrated and never even went platinum. not one rapper you named besides big can go hit for hit with 50

    13. Fif just need to put up and shut up..
Stop keeping the people waiting. If he’s so hot drop the heat or get out the conversations(kitchen)

    14. He is so effin thrash deadass who lookin to here 50 in 2021 or beyond foh that’s not hate that’s Faktz he effin do-do lol mfs always tryna stay relevant u a billionaire who Kares sounding like a lil ugly kid who Kant no females lol

      1. Your a perfect example of why kids should stay in school. Next time you drop a comment read it first before you send

    15. 50 cent came out strong as far as rap, but he has fell off. Yes the movies/series he’s involved in are a hit, but thats it. He doesn’t belong in the top 10, not even top 20.

    16. Fifty had his shine and has continued his success in everything he turns his hand too as a business man but he was never ever even close to even the top 20 rappers to come out of New York, there’s so many New York rappers before him, whilst he was hot and afterwards that are way more talented on the microphone ?
