50 Cent has an idea why his hit series Power keeps getting snubbed by the Emmys. During a recent panel discussion at the Television Critics Association Press Tour, the G-Unit boss claimed race was a factor in the STARZ show’s lack of nominations.
“I like to say it’s racial,” he said, according to the Associated Press. “That’s the easy way to get out of things. People who are running and connected to these ceremonies are not necessarily cool people.”
Power creator Courtney Kemp reacted to 50’s comments with a joke.
“So now, we’ll never get one,” she quipped.
Kemp also provided her own take on the show’s Emmy snubs.
“I thought we were doing something new and fresh,” Kemp said. “I was hoping that the Emmy voters would take notice, and they didn’t. You just accept it and move on. But we’ve been winning Image Awards now for quite some time. It feels as though our core audience does love and respect the show. Not every show gets the attention it deserves.”
Power’s sixth and final season is scheduled to premiere August 25. It will be split into two parts with the second half beginning in January 2020.

That’s not true at all. Just look up top 20 TV show viewership of 2018. Power didn’t make the top 20. That doesn’t mean it isn’t good, but it does mean it isn’t extremely popular, and popularity is what wins awards, not quality. Plenty of super great, low key entertainers.

The MAJORITY of popular shows are. Ot nominated lol. Lots of shows have higher ratings, and more viewers, and are not nominated to receive awards. Why aren’t more popular, more viewed, higher rated shows nominated? Racism? No. Simple fact = overwhelming majority of popular TV shows are not nominated for award shows.
FYI, the literal most popular TV show on all of TV was “Roseanne”, and they got rid of her because she tweeted something that offended easily offended, soft skinned people. Let’s be honest, artists win awards based on popularity, not actually quality. That’s why Kendrick lost to Mackelmore in 2013. It wasn’t because Kendrick is black. It was because Mackelmore pushed more numbers, and had bigger hits. Everything in racism to people who cannot just admit what they put out isn’t nearly as popular as the bigger hits.

Good show but I believe they made a few mistakes in seasons 1 and 2 that negatively impacted how well they could write and build the story for subsequent seasons.
