50 Cent is evidently pleased Oprah Winfery is no longer executive producing a forthcoming documentary about Russell Simmons. On Friday (January 10), only hours after the news broke Winfrey had stepped away, the Power mogul headed to Instagram to express his gratitude toward the talk show queen.
“Alright, alright, alright Oprah we love you, thank you for responding,” he captioned a screenshot of a Deadline article. “if you ever need me for anything I’m here.#starzgettheapp #abcforlife.”
Simmons responded in the comment section with a simple prayer hands emoji (or high five emoji, whatever is preferred). [apple_news_ad type=”any”]
The documentary reportedly revolves around Drew Dixon, who claims the Def Jam Recordings co-founder raped her in his New York City apartment in 1995. While Oprah noted she believed the alleged victim, she cited a conflict with the filmmakers’ vision. As a result, she’s not only distancing herself from the project but also blocking its path to Apple TV+.
In a statement obtained by Deadline, Oprah said more work is needed on the doc to “illuminate the full scope of what the victims endured and it has become clear that the filmmakers and I are not aligned in that creative vision.” She also added it’s too soon to premiere a film she feels isn’t complete at Sundance Film Festival in Park City, Utah next month.
“In my opinion, there is more work to be done on the film to illuminate the full scope of what the victims endured and it has become clear that the filmmakers and I are not aligned in that creative vision. Kirby Dick and Amy Ziering are talented filmmakers.
“I have great respect for their mission but given the filmmakers’ desire to premiere the film at the Sundance Film Festival before I believe it is complete, I feel it’s best to step aside. I will be working with Time’s Up to support the victims and those impacted by abuse and sexual harassment.”
Simmons was initially shocked Oprah would be attached to the project considering they’re close friends. In a lengthy Instagram post from last month, which he reposted early Saturday morning (January 11), he expressed his disappointment, a sentiment he reiterated to HipHopDX.
“I want to stay out of the mud,” he told DX last month. “I love Oprah. I’m disappointed.”
50 sided with Simmons and blasted Winfrey for seeming to only go after black men — in true 50 Cent fashion.
“I don’t understand why Oprah is going after black men,” he wrote. “No Harvey Weinstein, No Epstein, just Micheal jackson and Russell Simmons this shit is sad. Gale hit R Kelly with the death blow documentary. Every time I hear Micheal jackson I don’t know whether to dance or think about the little boys butts. These documentary’s are publicly convicting their targets, it makes them guilty till proven innocent.”
Revisit the post below.
What’s up with black people wanting to protect bad black men? I’m white. Go ahead, trash all white rapists, and exclusively go after white rapists. Doesn’t bother me one bit. All rapists are sub human scumbags. Stop trying to protect them 50! As for OPRAH. She is complicit in human trafficking, and covering for Harvey Weinstein for decades. None of this has anything to do with skin color. It purely has to do with power structures. These black men in these documentaries could never dream of wielding the power and influence that people like Harvey Weinstein or Jeffrey Epstein had. That’s why Oprah doesn’t talk about them. Money and power. It’s not due to white skin. It’s because Oprah’s handlers are handled by The Epsteins and Weisntiens.
first off, whats your evidence russell simmons is one of the bad black men you’re talking about? because as of right now, all we got is accusations made in the midst of metoo, no supportive evidence of the things hes been accused of. on top of that, its a good thing oprah backed away from this project because she straight up embarrassed and disgraced herself for even backing up that michael jackson documentary which was centered around 2 guys giving complete anecdotes for 2 damn hours straight with no proof, and on top of that, its been exposed for problems with the documentary such as inconsistent timelines for claims made and misinformation sprinkled throughout. as you pointed out already, oprah being friends with harvey is bad enough and makes her a hypocrite, so if she insist on backing up documentary about mofos, at the very least make sure you got actual receipts to back it all up, not just hersay from some people left and right. she could have backed up a project about r. kelly, which we got receipts of what he did, but no, instead, its jackson and simmons. she backing up the wrong shit while looking like a flatout hypocrite. smh.
That’s a great point, without evidence, it’s just accusation, and possibly slander. I’m not here to try and accuse the men of anything. I guess I didn’t know the full circumstance of all this. To me it seemed that people were mad she was focusing on a black rapist, but u myself cannot say I’ve watched it, or seen the accusation/evidence. If there is no legitimate evidence, than I completely understand the hate Oprah is receiving. With that said, Oprah herself is evil, and is personally involved with human traffickers.
Nice run on sentence. You have the grammar of a 7 year old. A slow 7 year old. LOL.
What ever happened to 50’s dog they he named Oprah?
50 is right about the “She says it happened, so let’s make a movie about how evil he is with zero actual proof” bullshit going on. But what does skin color have to do with this? Don’t tell other black people how to be black, and stop trying to protect people simply because they’re black. Basically… Dear black people: Please stop being full-tilt racists while simultaneously being hyper sensitive about racism, it’s not a good look.
Why are you even here? The ones who respond negatively to this are the ones who I am refering to
Haha. We can support the genre to make it become one of the biggest there is, but can’t have an opinion on the current affairs. What a god damn racist clown.
This site is owned by Pakistani’s. The internet was created by two white men from America. The smart phone by a white man. Electricity, white man. Hip hop is the number 1 form of music ina country where African Americans are 13% of the population. Using your ridiculous racist logic, I have to ask… Why are YOU here? LOL
So your problem is with the white people on this site who excessive their first amendment right of freedom of speech. Not ALL white people who come to this site. The ones who agree with whatever racist bullshit your on are OK. According to you. Got it.
Both Oprah and Russel were supporters of, and friends of R. Kelly, Bill Cosby, Harvey Weinstein and Jeff Epstein. Like all of these Movie/T.V./Music scum are. Neither of you are fooling anyone.
They’re trying to take down all successful black men. I bet 99% of successfulwhite have skeletons in the closet.
More than any of us know. What about the Catholic Church and the tight-lipped Vatican. There are a lot of white skeletons out there but for some reason they are kept on the down-low.
