2 Chainz and Lil Wayne have been friends for well over a decade, and the pair have now revealed the origins of their longtime bromance.

On Friday (October 20), Weezy and Tity Boi appeared on NBC’s The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, where prior to hitting the stage to perform their smash hit, “Presha,” the duo gushed about their longtime friendship.

“I mean, once we linked up, we were friends from there,” said Weezy, noting they first met at an Atlanta studio. 2 Chainz came across to Wayne as a laid-back guy who graduated from college and hooped.

He also noted that they had the “same type of attitude” but “didn’t know he rapped at the time.”

When asked to elaborate on how the pair began as longtime collaborators, they both appeared to get a little shy. “Uh…Wayne wanted cannabis,” said 2 Chainz, signaling to Fallon he was at one point in time Tunechi’s weed supplier.

“And so every time I would go to Atlanta and I wanted to speak about that one thing [marijuana], I would always call [2 Chainz] to talk about that,” Wayne added.

Sometime around 2007, things changed. the “I’m Different” hitmaker told Tunechi he was “doing the music thing,” and played him the song “Duffle Bag Boy.”

“The moment he said he rapped and the moment I heard it, we got to the studio, and I did this hook for the song, ‘Duffle Bag Boy.’ And the rest is history,” recalled Weezy about their collaboration which became a Top 40 hit for 2 Chainz’s then-group Playaz Circle.

The ColleGrovecollaborators told Fallon that over time, they became such close friends that Wayne served as best man at 2 Chainz’s wedding.

On the same day as their Fallon appearance, the Southern rap heavyweights unveiled the release date and cover art for their long-awaited second collaborative album, Welcome 2 ColleGrove.

On the Bangladesh-produced record, Tity Boi takes things back to the essence of why people gravitated toward his music, with playful bars that are meant to be played in rotation at celebratory events.

“More refills on me, you know we lit, lit/ They gon’ run this back just like a pick-six/ I done fell in love with a thick bitch/ I done fell in love with a rich bitch,” he spits.
