03 Greedo has been released from the Texas prison where he has been incarcerated since 2018 after being paroled some 15 years before the end of his original maximum sentence.
According to Complex, the Texas Department of Criminal Justice confirmed that Greedo (real name Jason Jamal Jackson) left the Thomas R. Havins Unit in Brownwood, Texas on Thursday (January 12).
Journalist Jeff Weiss, who’s been closely following Greedo’s legal case, initially announced his pending release on Sunday (January 8), stopping just short of calling the release date official.
03 Greedo was sentenced to 20 years in prison in 2018 after agreeing to a plea deal for gun and drug charges in Texas. The 32-year-old was reportedly facing a possible 300-year sentence for first-degree possession of a controlled substance and third-degree unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon.
He was arrested by Potter County Sheriff deputies after being stopped on a highway in Texas in 2016. Police found four pounds of methamphetamine and two stolen pistols after conducting a search of his vehicle.
Greedo’s maximum sentence year was 2038. The rapper became eligible for parole in 2020 and was initially projected to be released in 2026.
On Monday (January 9), 03 Greedo released his new album Free 03, a collaboration with producer Mike Free. The project consists of 14 tracks with features from the late Drakeo The Ruler, BlueBucksClan, OHGEESY and KenTheMan.
Despite his four year stint in prison, the Watts native has remained an active figure in Hip Hop, releasing a project nearly every year since being incarcerated. He kicked off an impressive two year run with the release of a 27-track album, God Level, which arrived the day before he reported to Havins.
The night before he started his bid, Greedo also famously linked with Lil Uzi Vert, Lil Pump and Smokepurpp on Desto Dubb’s “Bankteller.”
“We made this song on Greedo’s last day free, the night before he turned himself in,” producer Thank You Fizzle told Complex at the time. “Greedo and Pump were first meeting and made, like, five songs that night, and [‘Bankteller’] was probably the second or third one. Greedo then invited Uzi, and Uzi was like, ‘They’re all fire. Just tell me which one to hop on.’”
The following year, he connected with DJ Mustard on Still Summer In The Projects, which boasted appearances by YG, Shoreline Mafia and Trilliano.
Months later, 03 Greedo delivered the EP Meet The Drummers with Travis Barker.
“A lot of people are gonna wonder if the EP is on some rock ‘n’ roll or if it’s taking me out my element, but it’s kinda like Travis stepped into my world for this one,” Greedo said in a press release. “It’s gonna shock a lot of people when they hear it.”
He added: “Recording with Travis was work just like any other time, with me going in on every song. Once we were done with the project and had a friendly relationship was when I really got to appreciate the moment. It trips me out still when I talk to him while I’m locked up. He checks in on how I’m doing. It blew my mind when I put him on my visiting list to come see me.”
03 Greedo closed out 2019 with Netflix and Deal, a collaboration with Kenny Beats, featuring appearances by Vince Staples, Maxo Kream, Freddie Gibbs, Buddy, OhGeesy and Key!.
The “10 Purple Summers” rapper, who has said that he had over 3,000 songs recorded before he went to prison, did more than just work on music during his time behind bars.
In August 2019, the 35-year-old took to Instagram to share news of his graduation, after completing a GED program.
His track with Gibbs was fire. Hopefully they do a project together. Dude got lucky skating on these charges. His willing he’ll focus on music and family and avoid the street shit. You’ve got your second chance. Smoke some Microphones and make that money. Shout out to Watts and Grape!
How you only serve 4 years of a 20 year sentence ? That’s less than 25% !!!
the jews see a lane where this guy can spread that degeneracy they love real good and throw more idiots in jail. so it’s’ a win for them. they can always throw him back in prison or kill him in a year for the streaming money
The Jews, like Jesus you fucking moron? The music industry and film industry wouldn’t exist without the J’s dummy. We get it. Your dad left you and your whore of a mom started banging some Jewish guy who was a piece of shit. He was sticking his dick in that sewer hole you were shit out of. It’s not his fault really. You suck as a person and are an ignorant loser. Look in the mirror and tell Jews several times before crying. It might help. They made you this ugly no one. Dork. You could blame the gays too. Shit, pick any other group but your own.
