Lil Wayne has been a polarizing character his entire career and that attribute remained tried and true after his recent interview with ABC’s Nightline went viral.
When reporter Linsey Davis gauged the Young Money star’s vested interest in the Black Lives Matter movement, his response was shocking but for some, not all that surprising.
“What is it? What do you mean?” he counter questioned before spewing into a rant, “I am a young black rich [muthafucka]. If that don’t let you know that America understand black [muthafuckas] matter these days, I don’t know what it is. That man white [points at cameraman]; he filmin’ me. I’m a [nigga]. I don’t know what you mean man. Don’t come at me with that dumb [shit], ma’am. My life matter. Especially to my [bitches].”
But lo and behold, it was recently brought to the Internet’s attention that Weezy, 34, did indeed know what Black Lives Matter was, as he was recently filmed screaming the political slogan at one of his concerts.
The unearthing of said incident was made possible by Nigel D. of RealTalkNY, who posted footage from Wayne’s severely overlooked Lil Weezyana Fest 2016, where the star of the show was adamant to remind the thousands in attendance (and thousands more watching on TIDAL) that black lives, indeed mattered.
Wayne’s latest flood of perceived ignorance is especially disheartening, considering Wayne hails not too far from where Alton Sterling, the Baton Rouge man who was unnecessarily killed by two police officers in a June 2016 arrest, once sold CDs.
At this point, it’s obvious that the media knows what direction to steer Lil Wayne into a brick wall when it comes to his interviews. Still, every man is entitled to an opinion, regardless on how reckless or ill-conceived they may come across.
At any rate, Weezy F. got Twitter both livid and lively with discussion, spearheaded by the likes of Royce Da 5’9, 9th Wonder and comedian Andrew Schultz.
And 9th Wonder’s timeline just might a thing of legend. (Just ask Talib Kweli.)
Wow. This guy speaks his mind and gets crucified. He said he has never experienced racism. He has been to PRISON and grew up POOR in NEW ORLEANS!! One of the most dangerous, ghetto infested racist places I. The US. N.O. Had the highest per capita homicide rate for a long while. He probably treated everyone the same, dated everyone, went to different malls and neighborhoods and just doesn’t see it. Like I don’t. I am a black man from Brazil. I have lived 20 years in the US. I have never experienced racism. Here one neighborhood is predominaentky black, one Latino… in both. Americans segragate themselves by sticking to their own, only liking their own “style” of music, food and whatever, then hate on whites who embrace it all and invest in diversity. I don’t want gentrification in my city, but I don’t want racism either… ridiculous. Everyone is equal. If cops are shooting “innocent” people, than that’s an issue, not because of their ethnicity, because of their innocence. Why are your prisons 40% filled by 15% of the population? Why don’t people simply do WHAT THE MAN POINTING THE GUN AT THEN tells them to do? This world is so backwards. All of my Mexican, Brazilian and El Salvadorian friends have a MUCH harder time than my black friends. They are less accepted, have less opportunities because of being imigrantes etc and complain MUCH less. SMH
I literally have no Earthly idea what you just ranted about. I’ll leave you with this tho, just because you personally may not RECOGNIZE racism when it pops you in the face doesn’t mean that racism doesn’t exist. It simply means you live in a fantasy. And understand ALOT of people died so you can indulge in your ignorance.
Wow. OK. A lot of people died? More than are in prison? More than where killed by their own kind? You could have simply stopped with I don’t understand… that almost made sense.
Hey Dummy, yes. More people have been murdered/died throughout history for the assertion of civil liberties than whom are incarcerated; black white, red, or yellow. Prisonpolicy.org shows there are currently 2.3 million people incarcerated in the US currently. The Civil War had in excess of 600K casualties by itself, and that is going on 200 years ago. That’s not including those who died during slavery, Jim Crow, etc. None of that is what I alluded to in my original response but since you want to go there, that is your answer. If you stop trying to sound smart in place of getting smart (kinda like Wayne) it would make perfect sense, because it is a fact. Thanks for your time, Dummy.

1. Wayne had a record contract at 14, so let’s not pretend like he hasn’t been rich most of his life.
2. Perhaps you should ask why crack has a prison sentence that’s 10x longer than cocaine, despite being the same drug? Hmm… who typically buys / sells crack vs. who buys / sells coke? (thanks Reagan).
3. You should do some research on some of the people who were killed by the police. Tamir Rice was a 12 year old, and was shot within 2 seconds of the police getting out of their car. They didn’t even give him any orders, they just shot him. Oscar Grant was face down on the grown and was shot. I could literally go on for a page with examples, but I think you get the point.
4. I’m sorry your immigrant friends are having a hard time. But there is allowed to be more than one problem in this country. Black people have been treated unfairly by the police for a looooooooooong time. The things BLM are talking about are the same issues NWA and Public Enemy talked about in the 80’s. It’s the same thing that Malcolm X talked about in the 60’s.
5. This isn’t a black guy complaining about the system. I’m white. But I recognize injustice when I see it. I was lucky enough to grow up in a mixed race community / school, so I was able to learn from different cultures. I’ve witness first hand white people being treated a completely different way than black people in terms of police interaction.
6. Peace.
Wayne said a “cop murdered a man for a fucked up reason, that’s it”.. we shouldn’t have to connect that to a movement, yes he went on to say other shit but that’s how he feels. We always slander our own, “they, the system” don’t have to do much because we are quick to set each other on fire because we disagree even if they blatantly exploit and manipulate what we say.
Tamir Rice was a 12 year old playing with a toy gun and was killed within 2 seconds of the cops getting out of their car. He wasn’t pointing it at them, and he clearly looked like a kid.
When i was 17 I was in the car with a friend, and we thought it would be funny to point a fake gun at oncoming cars (yes, I know, I was a fucking idiot). One of the cars passing by was a cop, who saw me.
Cop pulled us over, obviously, searched the car, and cited me. In court the judge laughed, and I walked without even a slap on the wrist.
I’m white.
Yes, it’s different situations by different cops in different cities and different periods of time. However I can’t help but to think would Tamir Rice be alive if he were white. Would I be dead if I were black.
There is clearly a systematic racism in this country, whether on purpose or by second nature. It’s there.
Wayne having the audience he does, for some unknown reason because he’s a horrible rapper, has a responsibility to, at the very least) not act like an ignorant asshole when people of his same ethnicity are being killed at an alarming rate by police officers.
Even if you’re in a Benz you still a nigga, fuck all these rich rappers acting like they give a fuck about the people dying…
THE BLACK MAN IS LOST!!!!
BLM is a terrorist group.
I don’t but I really feel people are misreading his rant. I think in some weird f’d up way he is saying that black lives matter.
“I am a young black rich [muthafucka]. If that don’t let you know that America understand black [muthafuckas] matter these days, I don’t know what it is. That man white [points at cameraman]; he filmin’ me. I’m a [nigga].
He is basically trying to say that yes
You right Dawg. He never disrespected BLM, verbally. He made statements that were dismissive, not disrepectful. But caring like people do is the weird part. It’s like bait for mice, I’m not caring or biting.
………black lives do matter by the simple fact that he is a very important RICH, BLACK man who is being filmed and interviewed showing that yes, black folks are important to the American race and yes they do matter. I hope this makes sense lol.
Don’t start bitchin up about this guy now …Hip hop sites have revered his work and others like him. The choice was made to move away from Public Enemy and the political rap of the 90’s and start giving the Lil Wayne’s of the world the attention. If BLM why rap about pimpin your own kind and glamorizing the violence hat has plagued the inner city for decades? The modern hip hop industry made their decision now live with it. Congratulations hip hop world, these are your role models in 2016.
Wayne is 100% right. I’m sure his publicist and manager will tell him to retract his statement immediately.
What’s shocking? This nigga is the prime reason for all the ignorant ass music today, once we allowed all that nonsensical bullshit he was doing pass for some sort of art. On top of that, he’s been on basically since like 14, so yeah, he probably hasn’t experienced a lot of racism. He also hasn’t experienced none of that street shit he tries to pump neither but don’t worry, he’ll get his nigga wake up call eventually, they ALL do…
Ok, so how old are you? I feel your pretty young by your answer! Wayne is very talented. He is an actual artist who creates good music. He creates art. You can understand what he is saying, he is lyrical, he is unique, He can mix genres of music very well. Overall he paved his own lane to give everyone The Lil Wayne most people have come to love! Now, for you to say he hasn’t experienced any street shit, that’s very wrong. I live in the Southside of Chicago and believe me, by the age of 14 you are plenty consumed by the streets. Do you even understand how many 14 year old die by the gun this year alone? Man!! Too many!! Now the area Wayne grew up in Louisiana is almost as bad so for you to make a statement like that is uneducated and just wrong! People really shouldn’t be spewing out information that they don’t really know about or even care less to research about. In all honesty I give Wayne a ton of credit for going against the grain and in all reality not subjecting himself in promoting racism. Don’t get me wrong I completely understand the meaning behind BLM but I also have an objective mind and realize in all actuality it promotes racism. Now that keeping it ?
Lol..I had a mistype. Meant to say keeping it ?
Fail.
This guy (((Andrew Schulz))) sure hates white people.
This not intended for you, respeck. It’s for the jackass named Dummy who replied to my post at the bottom. DX’s website is fucking up.
The F stands for Fucks, Weezy Fucks Baby, god damn queers
Hip Hop was created by white people.
Hip Hop was not “created” by white people. That is just flat out not true. Maybe white people pushed it into the place it’s at but saying that it was created by white people is fucking ignorant. Do your research
Lol, there’s nothing white people won’t attempt to steal from others.
Hell no,, I don’t give a fuck weda you are blak or white, all wat I know is white ppl are muthafuckaz, blak ppl are muthafuckaz too….. My POV. #i got mine,go get yours
