DaBaby’s meteoric rise to stardom over the past year is tough to ignore. On Tuesday (December 10), the North Carolina native received a public cosign from one of music’s biggest artists — Drake.
DaBaby was in Toronto as part of his KIRK tour. During his set, the 27-year-old surprised his fans by inviting the 6 God to join him onstage.
After treating the crowd to a live performance of his hit single “Money In The Grave,” Drake made sure to publicly acknowledge the growing success of the “BOP“ mastermind.
“2018, 2017, I used to watch you rep your city,” Drake said, speaking directly to DaBaby. “I used to watch you love your city. And look, we don’t say this enough to each other as rappers, but I wanna say ‘Congratulations. You killing this shit.’”
DaBaby posted a video clip of the moment to his Instagram account with the caption, “Shared the stage w/a legend tonight.”
Before leaving, Drizzy thanked the crowd and updated fans on his next album. [apple_news_ad type=”any”]
“I love you with all my heart,” he said. “I’mma go back to the crib and try to finish this album up so we can turn up 2020.”
Drake hasn’t released a new solo album since 2018’s Scorpion. In June, he posted an Instagram photo captioned “Album mode,” letting fans know he was back in the studio.
DaBaby, who was recently forced to cancel a show in his hometown of Charlotte, is nominated for a 2020 Grammy Award for Best Rap Song and Best Rap Performance for his single “Suge.”

I miss around 2012 or so when hiphop had a great resurgence, and the new school greats went big.. Kendrick and all of TDE, J Cole, Jon Connor, ASAP Rocky, many many more. Seems as if they all fell off or sold out going pop… Idc what anyone says, Kendrick is pop rap mostly now, doing features with fucking future and Migos… Cole has been soft and for the ladies, with that fake woke BS since his debut album, where is his come up music was dope. I feel like currently, we don’t have anyone leading hiphop tmin the mainstream. We have no shortage of great hiphop in the underground, but in the mainstream, it’s really shitty right now.
Pop and non pop are silly labels. You aren’t remembered if you don’t sell massive amounts of music period. Go back in history my friend, there we’re a whole groups of backpackers lamenting the pop hiphop made by Biggie, LL Cool J, Dr Dre and 2Pac In favour of Black Moon, De La Soul and Jeru. Hatred of what is popular is nothing new. But who is remembered 20 years from now who didn’t sell millions? You just got old and stuck in your taste. Music is decided by 10-16 year olds. Frankly, the underground hiphop you hear today is no where near as creative as the hiphop of the past – It’s terribly non innovative – and sounds like crap unrefined carbon copies of what Wu-Tang , Doom and Nas did years ago. Kendrick, Cole and Drake are all great MCs by any standard if you actually know how to dissect lyrics. Popularity or unpopularity aside.
All hip hop will be in Korean 20 years from now
You seriously just called Drake… A great MC? What the fuck? He’s not an MC by any standard… He’s an entertainer. You don’t know shit about what your talking about.
I don’t miss 2012. Rap gonna be what it’s gonna be. I’ll say J Cole has stepped up multiple levels. His come up music was cliche looking back. He was too much of a fan In his music and style. Nowadays he’s standing out more even though he looks like the lost member of Souls of Mischief. And most vets outside of Royce, Black Thought and Nas are becoming more washed. Lupe, Blu and Kendrick are the youngest that can rock. Hip Hop has seen better times but I’m over it.
Kirk is alright even though DaBaby only got like 2-3 flows. Drake gets money but makes music for adults who want to fit in, I’ll pass
@ Jay. Drake on Summer Sixteen: “All my exes know I like my Os with a V in the middle”. 1) references to OVO his label (October’s Very Own) 2) reference to a female’s anatomy 3) The Weeknd was supposed to start OVOXO with him and just before he says “New Toronto” guys wants to be me a little so saying OVO is obviously a side diss with the X or “Ex” out of the middle 4) well known and reported by Noah 40 that Drake And Weeknd relationship has been soured because Drake was sleeping with Weeknd’s exes. That’s a quadruple entendree packaged like a simple rhyme for idiots who can’t dissect lyrics . Now tell me your favorite underground MC pulling off those bars and saying them slick. Dude – they ain’t got bars like that. Call it pop
Or whatever. That’s what hiphop is all about
Didn’t that noname chick say Da Baby’s shows are black as hell? I don’t even see a black face in that crowd.
It’s Toronto lol
drake the biggest dick rider in the game
That SNL performance was dope!
