Hip Hop fans are still waiting on Pusha T’s official response to Drake’s “Duppy Freestyle,” but the G.O.O.D. Music president provided some insight on the beef in a new interview with Vulture. Although the conversation took place before Drizzy’s diss dropped, Pusha’s statements provide a glimpse at his mindset amid the feud.
Pusha referred back to Drake’s 2016 cut “Two Birds, One Stone,” which took shots at the Clipse member’s street cred but in a more subtle way than “Duppy Freestyle.” King Push explained why he felt the need to respond with “Infrared” on DAYTONA, noting his rival questioned his “authenticity to the streets.”
“I feel like … If you’re gonna question me, now I have to question authenticity, and what I feel it is that you claim,” he said. “You claim a lot of music superiority. You run the charts, for sure. You got it, bro. [thumbs up] Got it, homeboy. [laughs] But, I have to question the authenticity of it when you get into the idea of skill set and what you do, off of what I’ve heard publicly. I’m not reaching for this, this is not my — This is out there, this is public knowledge. It’s fine. But, you know, I know, we know. But, I have to question that. I have to.”
Pusha was then asked about the repercussions of his latest Drake diss. The veteran MC said he’s prepared for a summer-long battle.
“I’m ready for everything that comes with it,” he said. “Everything. And we gonna deal in truths. If that’s what we gonna do, and that’s what we really, really, wanna deal in, let’s deal in real truths. Because, I feel like I was questioned. My truth was questioned, and I’m gonna deal in truths all summer long. If everybody wanna deal in that, then I have no problem with that, I think it’s great. Think the world needs truth.”

Pussy L wah wah wah, you got smoked.
Lol Pussy T sounds more appropriate, he still in hiding
Lol yea right. Ain’t nobody in there right mind scared of degrassi
Why unload your clip when dude just shot back, drake lp coming so when that drops we’ll get a response
How you replying to ya self and like ya own comments lol
I’m a big Pusha-T fan. My two favorite verses are the ones he spit on “Like I love you” by Justin Timberlake, or on “The Call (Neptunes Remix)” by Backstreet Boys. Classic hardcore hip hop at its finest. Drake better watch out.
I know you trying to be funny, but at least Push wrote those verses himself.
Why is this even a beef though? Drake was an admitted big Clipse fan. For some reason Pusha been taking shots for like a decade over what? Jealousy? Why did he ever care about Drakes label situation or who he is signed too? Even with an “all fucked up contract” Drake makes more in 1 year than Pusha T made in 2 decades. And how the fuck is this guy gonna talk about authenticity when he got the fakest rapper of all time featured on his new album, correctional Officer Ricky… Such a hypocrite!
Pusha talks on it because its bad for the game to have a norm where shitty contracts and a bunch of ghostwriters is regular. Takes away from mcs who write their own material and grind independently. I think he’s fighting a good cause for the culture. And he is using Drake and them as an example because their business is already out there. Not really that hard to figure out.
But his own boss uses ghost writers, ghost producers, ghost designers, etc… he’s a fucking hypocrite
And Rick Ross is on a song because he went at Birdman couple years back.
Ebro explained it on a Hot 97 vid… its a unique perspective that might hold weight.
You are so lost learn how to read before you gripe.KING PUSH SAID DRAKE QUESTIONED HIS STREET CRED you fucking moron
Pusha got this no question. He managed to piss drake off with one bar. Wait till he goes full exodus 23 on drizzy. All drakes credibility will be lost forever.
What can Push say about Drake that hasn’t already been said though?
“You run the charts, for sure” he places himself below drake by saying that. pusha t is such a hoe. he should knock up one of the kardashians next so he can have all the attention his little hoe ass really needs.
pusha was top 3 for me but hard to respect a “hustler” who moves like this I mean Drake sonn’d his boss – it will take more than a week late response to have any kind of impact – Pusha is gonna have to scale the industry somehow to do anything
Pusha been around the biz longer than drake. And drake ain’t got the bars to handle pusha for real. Plus push ain’t got shit to prove
Nah. Pusha started this. If drake started this it would be acceptable for Pusha to play it like he ain’t got a thing to prove. If he wants to take shots at Drake to sell albums he has to deal with the reprocussions that come w that
Not that serious
The art of talking a lot and saying nothing.
How is this considered beef?, noone has been shot, stabbed or beaten up yet. This is the softest era of rap in history. Pusha T and Drake are both soft
No one is supposed to. Did Krs One stab Marley Marl? Jay-Z stab Nas? Eminem stab Canibus or Benzino? This is no different than any other era
They weren’t considered beef either, they were battles. My point is call it a battle, not beef. Beef goes into personal lives.
BIG told us what “Beef” is. This is 100% a battle.
rip to Terrence LeVarr Thornton
only a gay teenager would make that statement.
Pusha should’ve left this alone.
Drake responded overnight. Puss doesn’t know what to do or say, so he needs time. We saw this with the Drake and Weak Mill beef. Weak took so long to respond and when he did, it was garbage.
Nooo pop white kids are not checkin for pusha..but in the black community especially in the ghetto they do check for pusha…..where the fuck are you from?? lol…
Jay-z put out TAKEOVER at Hot 97 Summer Jam in 2001 (June/Summer)…. Nas waited like 5-6 months to spit, “F Jay-z,” with ETHER! We now live in a microwave society where everyone wants a response immediately. Pusha is not from the microwave era and his, “pen game” is ill! It’s gonna be a Cruel Summer!
Pardon me, a SURGICAL SUMMER!
How about another track Push?? One and done just isn’t enough. That shows it’s was just a reach to sell some records and get a buzz that’ll fade to black in 2 more weeks. Like Game Vs Meek..
Did you not read that he’s ready for a summer long battle?
…….
“Ready for everything that comes with it” means he won’t release a response and nothing will come of this beef for another 5 years or so, then there will be another round of subliminal shots on one verse of one song. I don’t see this issue actually leading to a dope back and forth that results in any classic diss records. Honestly I’d love to see Pusha test himself and do that, when have we ever seen that? Pusha’s whole career has been his fans claiming that if he really did a full blown diss it would be deadly, but he never has. He’s talked mad trash in interviews, but the beefs on wax have been largely subliminal, yet obvious who he was talking about. Push needs to quit teasing us and do a full track just going tf in on the whole YMCMB camp, I just won’t hold my breath for it. And honestly, does Push want that smoke? His bars are more creative than battle rap format, he rarely comes with “oh snap” punchlines.
I literally could have actually held my breath between the time I posted this comment and the time an actual diss track was released. Less than an hour after I posted a comment saying I doubt that Push will respond because he’s never done a non-subliminal diss track, he releases the first one in his entire 15+ year career (if I’m wrong let me know, but I can’t think of a single one). With that kind of unlucky judgement, I should be a stock broker. My first day on the job would be the day a crippling recession sets in.
I guess you were wrong
Say that again?
Lol
They should just make some good diss tracks then collab Push/Wayne/Drake.
It’s not about record sales it’s not about how much money you got it’s about skills. It’s about whose iller on the mic plain and simple it’s about whose nicer with the pen. Hip hop is always competitive so that’s why theres always battles going on.
You made that stupid shit up. Beef is about some real shit going down and you got on wax to address it instead of doing it in the streets. This is some industry nonsense which is why hip hop is the 2018 minstrel show. How is there beef when confirmed thse fools have been collaborating in and out of each others’ camps directly and indirectly for damn near 10 years? I don’t remember some Roc-a-Fella dudes doing Nas callabos when that shit was going down. I don’t remember the LOX being in the studio with Snoop and Death Row artists while Pac was saying he fucked Biggie’s wife. GFOH. This is why hip hop is in the state it’s in now because dummies eat this stupid shit up that doesn’t add to the culture.
Which explains why all of the music is so underwhelming because this shit is WWE and the quality reflects as such. If the disses were real, they would be classics that had feeling behind them. Yet again instead we get some more throw away garbage that will be dispensed like the rest of the underwhelming music that these people are putting out today. I said it with the Meek and Drake stuff and all of these other so called beefs that arise out of industry fuckery, it just is not helping the culture, and it seems that some of the people who know better and should be holding hip hop to its standards don’t call people on it just as long as somebody they don’t like get attacked or something, which I don’t respect. Quick for instance, Skillz and Uncle Murda…that was a well-qualified beef because one dude called another out…they don’t have a history of fucking with each other, and Skillz let him have it. Handled on wax…over, done. I won’t hear about them at the studio together in Hawaii in 6 months.
Fake beef is always wack, but it’s sad when old dudes who have been in the game do this shit. Nobody wants to hear 45 year olds dissing people. Same shit I said when Mase and Cam’Ron were doing this shit. It just is pathetic on every level…this is some shit you do in your 20s when you’re first coming up in the game and only over somebody else getting at you. It’s why the greatest ones still get played today like Hit Em Up and Ether while this is like a million of those others over fake shit that get forgotten.
Drake… call that man and apologize for bringing his fiancé into this rap beef or just call to squash it all together… LOL, this ain’t looking good for you, your crew of ghostwriters.
The streets vs pop.
For most who don’t know. Pusha T always been a beast. People trip me out when they say old dudes try to come back and rap. I wonder why , y’all don’t even know hip hop. Auto tune ain’t shit, y’all not lyrical at all. You can’t tell a story based on your life you make it up. If it wasn’t for the OG’s y’all wouldn’t have been in the game. They the ones that made it possible for y’all to even speak. You learn I respect the ones who paved the way Cause that micro wave music is trash. All that mumble crap. The ones who started get no credit. Amigos how did they get that style…. from Lord infamous from Three six mafia.. they perfected it but I don’t see no credit due. To the guy who said Mase and camron beef, Cam got what he needed to get that was way over due for years. Cam always throwed shots at Mase and he never responded. See that shit was over and Cam couldn’t even respond after that. See y’all generation let shit fly, we Og’s take care of business while y’all piss ya pants. If y’all can’t take the real then don’t listen to it ya dig . There ain’t no authentic rappers no more , this generation and I quote (some not all) are wack and that’s the facts
R.I.P to the realest Mc of all time
Prodigy / Bandana P/ Captain Bars”the gran Wizard of bars
And nobody wanted to hear a Mase/Cam’Ron beef except ignorant people in 2017. I am well aware of everything you put here. It’s still wack when dudes who have been around do this shit. Hell, it’s pathetic for Drake too, which is why I don’t know why you were lopsiding it to Pusha’s perspective. Drake isn’t a newbie anymore. He’s been here 10 years now and still gossiping like a bitch too after continuing to write and make music with people who he knows don’t like him. So stop doing it dummy. My thing is that beef is about real shit that goes down, and it’s shit you do when you’re a young hot head, not a so called seasoned veteran. If Jay and Nas did those tracks in 2018 at 40+, I would have had a whole different perspective on them than I had on late 20s, early 30s guys doing it, and that’s even with the actual personal angle to it that this nonsense doesn’t have. This is some bitch shit industry shit that I don’t care about.
