Spotify announced R. Kelly’s catalog was removed from its playlists on Thursday (May 10) based on its new Hate Content & Hateful Conduct policy. Now, the company has decided to remove XXXTENTACION’s music from its playlists as well.
As reported by the New York Times, Spotify explained the company “thought long and hard about how to handle content that is not hate content itself, but is principally made by artists or other creators who have demonstrated hateful conduct personally.”
As of Thursday, X’s music is no longer featured on the Rap Caviar playlist, which boasts over nine million followers but his music is currently still available on a Spotify-curated This Is XXXTENTACION playlist.
The polarizing rapper is facing multiple felony charges stemming from a 2016 domestic violence case, including aggravated battery of a pregnant woman, domestic battery by strangulation, false imprisonment, and witness tampering. If convicted, he could face up to decades in prison.
Despite his soiled reputation, X’s latest album, ?, debuted at #1 on the Billboard 200 upon its release in March. The 20-year-old recently announced his next album, Skins, was coming soon.
Spotify worked with organizations like The Southern Poverty Law Center, The Anti-Defamation League, Color Of Change, Showing Up for Racial Justice (SURJ), GLAAD, Muslim Advocates, and the International Network Against Cyber Hate to come up with its recently written policy.
HipHopDX reached out to X’s publicist but she declined to comment on the record.[apple_news_ad type=”any”]
Now the 12 year olds who support Xxxtentacion will consider him a martyr
The same undeserved shit they are getting should happen to chris brown. Not only he is a poor drake imitator, he treats women like shit and makes their lives miserable
Drake imitator? Pretty sure CB was out way before Drake lool
Thankfully I got Pandora cause some of X music is decent imo and R Kelly got great songs
Kelly has the best discog in RnB.
If thats the case now then every rapper is no longer going to be featured on Spotify
i need to know why he tattooed nasal strips on his nose. i love wayne but damn he made face tats a normal thing.
there it is for everybody making the argument that today artists don’t need the system and they can do it all themselves. the “machine” can still silence yo ass if they decide to
This is a stupid move by spotify, considering teens stream the most. Don’t get me wrong, I don’t like xxx, but if this is to become a thing, spotify will be hurting themselves in the long run. They will have to take anything from Tyler the Creator (what doesn’t he say to violate the terms), any rapper to say cracker, Drill music etc
So is Spotify also gonna silence Michael Jackson, Chris Brown, Rick Ross, Cee-Lo Green, Big Pun, Too $hort, Nelly? This snowflake era has gotten out of control.
I know about the rest, but what did Nelly do?
He was accused of r@pe. I think his verdict was not guilty, but it don’t matter. If you get accused of something like domestic violence or r@pe, then this whole PC internet generation will get on you like vultures on a carcass.
Fuck SPOTIFY! I don’t like XXXTenacockkoo or Kelly but this is BS.
Take every Rapper off of Spotify because they all have gone through shit.
Damn, they removed my music, too.
I’ve never listened to a song in my life by this clown. I mean…look at him. But this trend is getting worrisome. Social justice warriors with nothing to do in their life other than complain about every little thing is bad enough in comment sections of the net, but now they are in charge of what people listen to. Fk Spotify.
