Anderson .Paak says fans can expect his third studio album — the follow-up to 2016’s widely-acclaimed Malibu — to be released sometime this year.
During a recently published interview with Australia’s triple j radio station, .Paak also revealed that label boss Dr. Dre has been heavily involved in the album’s creation.
“[Dr. Dre] had a heavy role in this new album that’s almost done as well,” he said. “Just going through the mixing phase. I won’t say any dates but you can definitely expect it this year, sometime … It’s dope to be around like legends like that and you can feel the mutual respect. That’s what I always did it for, I wasn’t really thinking about money or fame, I just wanted the respect from the people I look up to musically. It’s amazing.”
.Paak heavily contributed to Dr. Dre’s 2015 album, Compton: A Soundtrack by Dr. Dre, featured on six of the LP’s 16 tracks. He signed to Dre’s Aftermath Entertainment in January of 2016.
Elsewhere, .Paak also spoke about working on the Black Panther soundtrack, which is executive produced by Kendrick Lamar and TDE boss Anthony “Top Dawg” Tiffith.
.Paak — who appears on the album’s “Bloody Waters” song alongside Ab-Soul and James Blake — reveals he recorded his part remotely in South Africa.
“We were in South Africa, we had literally just got off the plane and I got a text from Kendrick, he was like ‘I hear you on the song I don’t hear nobody else on it,’” he said. “I just go to South Africa, ‘I’ll try my best to get it done’. So we just booked a studio that night and I recorded it and sent it back – he loved it. Couple weeks later it was on the soundtrack.”
Can’t wait for his new album. Anderson is one of Dre’s greatest protégées. What a talent…
He was popping before he sign with Dre.. definitely not one of protege…
Yeah I know but he got a major boost with the “Compton” album like K-Dot before him with “Good Kid” or 50 Cent with “Get Rich” so… Dre help them grows. But protégée is not the good word I dunno
You also dunno how to speak english. Dunno? Is this a 2 year old? Nah man Im just playin hahahaha… but seriously- clean it up man
I have a feeling this will be one of the Aftermath albums that never comes up.
Just like Jon Connor, bishop lamont, stat quo, slim the mobster
Dont forget about that white guy he signed Justus. Jon Connor been on the labal 4-5 years and aint dropped shit.
finally im hyped
Won’t ever drop
ANDERSON.PAAK is DRE’s next ‘KENDRICK’ level artist! He’s part of a New SOUL Movement that will put an END to mumble bumble fumble cRap by next year and Spark a NEW REVOLUTION of Great Vocalists, Great Musicians & Great Songs! #UNiccasJealousDreWillNeverCareAboutYou
This is a joke; have you noticed how every album coming from that camp, and surrounding circles, always name drop Dre but nothing is ever there? Game “im going back to dr Dre beats” and drops album with 0. Eminem- “dre is in the studio right now working on the new eminem project”- only thing dre produced was a fucking intro. kendrick- “production expected to be handled by dr dre, amongst others” 0 dre beats. Oh and the latest headline about “detox might be released after all” like cmon man. Dre aint making music and that sucks but these cats gotta stop getting us hyped only to totally let us down
Cuz Dre lost his touch and he knows it too. No inspiration anymore to produce very good tracks anymore, let alone classics.
Sadly I have to agree.. but damn at least sell some of the unused detox beats
Fuck outa here. Dre still got it. He jus aimin 4 them young ears, and THAT’s where he’s fucking up. He got @ least 1 mo in him. He jus be bullshitting. He’ll tease us wit a artist we really get into, then switch up & drop someone else’s joint. It’s jus bullshit.
Ya’ll tripping. Dre ain’t lost it. He’s a perfectionist and his on worse critic. He’s a genious and surrounded by hella dope producers in his camp. His more about the music and not just the beat. What does everybody expect to do…a whole record of fucking trap beats?? He’s not the type thats going to grab a laptop with a copy of fruitty loops and drag & drop some sounds from some loops from sample pack. Which is exactly what the younger generation of beatmakers are doing. Its the main reason why damn near all the beats soound excatly the same. Song after song and all the beats sound the same. Not Dre. He’s a forreal “MUSIC PRODUCER”. Nothing cookie cutter about his production skills. When ever he drops again it will go platinum.
Malibu was a masterpiece, dont @ me
