Chance The Rapper Apologizes To Dr. Dre For Dissing Aftermath

Last April, Chance The Rapper took his indie gloating a little too far and attacked major labels, including Aftermath Entertainment. Now, the “No Problem” MC has apologized for his actions.

Chance specifically expressed regret for the disrespect he showed to Dr. Dre and Aftermath. The proud independent artist issued an apology on Thursday (June 22) via Twitter.

“I want to formally apologize to Dr Dre, and all of Aftermath for publicly disrespecting their hard work and contributions to music,” he tweeted.

The show in question took place in San Diego and featured a giant video screen flashing parodies of popular major labels. Sony turned into Phony, Def Jam Recordings to Don’t Join Records and Aftermath Entertainment to Can’t Do Math Entertainment.

Chance fully intended to mock major labels, but the insults ended up targeting an artist-run imprint in Aftermath as well. The Grammy Award winner now views this as a mistake.

“When I went on the Be Encouraged tour I made LED content to satirize and degrade major labels,” Chance wrote. “I made the mistake of including Imprints which not only dulled my overall point of trying to uplift artist but also singled out artist-owned ventures that have only worked to progress the culture.”

Chance capped off the string of tweets by praising the various ventures and artists developed by Dre over the producer’s storied career. He also reiterated his apology and emphasized his error.

“Dre is a premier example of creating space for wealth and ownership in an industry designed for creatives to be the foot soldiers,” he wrote. “His work with Beats, Compton Schools and artist like Kendrick, Game, Eminem, .Paak, 50 NWA and others is unmatched and how i inspire to be. I set out to empower and I completely missed the ball and I know that now, once again Sorry to Dre, all the artists/producers at Aftermath and all the other folk trying to make a difference in music that I belittled.”

      1. First of all its “corporate” and i doubt it because he would have apologized to Sony because they have the power to kill people if they wanted too.

    1. FAAAAAAAAAG doe. Real spit doe. CJ Mac neva took bacc when he put out dat cold record dissin all aftamaf MARKS specially dat wigger wite boi who bet not had said naythin an sho nuff he didn’t doe. Ol scarry a55. Nowdayz dudes ain’t built liek dat.

      1. Trouble is CJ Mac was too busy writing diss records nobody cared about while dre and em were going platinum and diamond. So who’s the real sucker here?!?

    2. Somebody from Aftermath umbrella reached out and touched his ass. Dre might not be putting out the content he once was but he still calls shots and a lot of high powered people are eating off that plate

      1. Real talk. Which sucks bc I was impressed by the bold move. Now it makes him come out as a yes man artist after all he’s been trying to accomplish

    3. This kid has had been pushed so hard by his rich father, the mayor & other politicians, he is as corporate as they come, & he still sucks, big time.

    4. Chance found out Eminem was writing some lethal bars aimed at him, and quickly apologized so he wouldn’t get ethered.

          1. Relapse was his last dope album fuck you talking bout? That Recovery single Im Not Afraid tho smfh one the worst tracks ever he also has a track called GOAT and it might be the worst rap song i ever heard lol its seriously bad.He is one the best he sometimes makes my top 5 but his recent shit aint been good his voice n delivery sounds fucked up and the tracks have a lot of garbage about them

    5. Like Common said “I see the b!tch in you” Dre’s influence and body of work for the advancement of hip hop alone earns him legend status and respect. You can’t compare that to winning 3 grammys at a time when Future is considered a Hip Hop emcee :-] Sit Down Chance, be humble!

    6. It takes a real man to admit when he is wrong and apologize to those he affected. Be ups to Change, much respect. `

    7. Honesty aftermath desevers this they only put out Kendrick 50 and eminem .. yes all great names but they dropped countless talented rappers without even putting them out

    8. Seriously a baby in the game talking crazy. Like mentioning def jam? Fuck aftermath. If there was no def jam there would be no modern hip hop. Def jam was more impactful they introduced modern hip hop which went on to evolve into the 2 golden eras of hip hop 1988-1991 and 1992-1995

    9. Every label he dissed has put out albums that would of inspired and made him wanna be a rapper i dont care to even listen to his boring ass music he looks like a ninja turtle and do he ever take that dusty ass fitted off his head? His boy Vic Mensa is a certified fuck-boy too
