Lupe Fiasco Calls It Quits Once & For All

Lupe Fiasco has teased retirement before, and now the Chicago rapper claims he is officially done with the rap game.

In a series of tweets posted today (December 13), Lupe expresses frustration that his “N.E.R.D.” freestyle, which was rapped over J. Cole’s “Everybody Dies” beat, was apparently taken down by SoundCloud. (The embed still works on our site). The removal is apparently due to “hate speech.” DJBooth penned an editorial pointing out one specific line that it found to be anti-semitic.

“Artists getting robbed for their publishing by dirty Jewish execs who think it’s alms from the covenant,” Lupe, who has had his fair share of qualms with Atlantic Records, raps on the song.

After the editorial was published, the MC went on Twitter to defend the line, saying that not all Jewish executives are corrupt, he was just trying to make a point about those who are.

Ultimately, Lupe took the situation as a sign from God to stop rapping and he consequently announced his retirement and the cancellation of his three upcoming albumsDROGAS, DROGAS Light and Skulls.

    1. So the Zionist are attacking him for what he said. I guess Black people don’t really own hip hop(sarcasm)
      I wouldn’t retire screw them.

    2. He was just emotional at the time. There’s no way he can just literally retire on a dime like that. Give him some time to calm down. Then we’ll see what comes next.

      1. Just looking for attention. creating some talk before the album release. Getting the people on his side by playing the victim so they buy his album

        1. The albums that are supposedly dropping December 2017? You’re an idiot if you think he needs promo for projects happening THAT late. FOH

    3. I’m a huge lupe fan*he’s in my top 5*real quick*no order*pac/jay/rakim/ghostface/lupe/…but fa real yo*fuck this niggah if he’s serious*I speak from the heart and telling the truth comes with alot of backlash*sounds like excuses not to drop the albums he promised*

    4. Any body that “calls” themselves a lupe fan that don’t get it…you was just a d!ckR!&ER…if you been down since day one this makes perfect sense!! THis is so Lupe, I wouldn’t expect anything less…I also expect that he will come back in a month or so with a new perspective. He will find a way to get the music to us!!!! True LUPE fans know this!!!!

      1. Lupe has never officially retired before he has said such and such will be my last album, but he has never until now straight up and said, I’m done now.

    5. Hope he takes his overrating ass fans with him. Tired people saying he’s the a top 5 MC. He has one legitimate classic album. You ain’t top 5 with that body of work.

    6. The ironic part about all this is that for a guy who spends so much time talking about social injustice, Lupe really did use hate speech in NERD.

    7. Now we just need all the rest of them so called rappers to call it quits too!

    8. He is and has always been a dope MC. But it seems like whenever he’s faced with some adversity he clams up and pouts. Lupe, it’s a fight man. A war for freedom and justice and going on in this country right now. We need all the thoughtful rappers, to try to counterbalance all the ignorant ones. But if you don’t got the sack for it, then peace. You were a dope MC, too bad you were a weak Man.

    9. Lupe is such a fuckin crybaby, cut the bullshit and give us the goddamn albums we’ve been patiently waiting for way too long.

    10. LOL wtf i saw him perform like a month ago in Illinois. Dude has made some of my favorite music ever, but why is he always pouting? i remember him getting his fans to take action 6 years ago so that Atlantic would release Lasers, and they gave in. Now they took a song off soundcloud and he’s ready to quit? Honestly I could care less if those 3 albums come out, and I’d just say thanks for the classics you HAVE given us, but I always thought lupe was more of a fighter than this.

    11. Hope he doesn’t quit, he normally flirts with retirement, even with his social media so I expect him to be back. It is bs that SoundCloud took the song down, society is really messed up nowadays, overly sensitive and trying to control the way ppl speak. Trying to enforce like 70 different gender neutral pronouns and all that. But running away is not solving anything, and considering he’s one of the few real rappers left he will be missed if he follows through. Too much boy who cried wolf with him so it’s hard to be sad about this now.
