Roughly two weeks after producers Dr. Dre and DJ Premier were pictured together in the studio, details on why the two beatsmiths were in the studio together have been revealed. DJ Premier has reportedly lent his assistance on Dr. Dre’s upcoming album, Compton: A Soundtrack By Dr. Dre.
News of a collab between Dre and Premier was confirmed thanks to an Instagram post from DJ Rhettmatic. In his post, DJ Rhettmatic spoke on listening to final tracks on Compton, and witnessing a collaboration between DJ Premier and Dr. Dre.
DJ Rhettmatic also confirmed that the collab between the two producers also features vocalist Anderson .Paak.
“2 weeks ago, I finally get to meet the man himself,” DJ Rhettmatic wrote in an Instagram post uploaded yesterday (August 2). “At the studio. It’s crazy because I have a lot of friends that worked with the Doctor but I’ve never met in person. It was surreal. It was really cool to talk to him about DJing & music. It was very kind of him to let me listen to some of the final versions of this upcoming album. And what was even very crazy, is that I got to witness the official producer collabo between the Good Doctor & @djpremier for a song that features the talented @anderson_.paak.”
Compton was announced earlier this month during Dr. Dre’s Beats 1 radio show, “The Pharmacy.” The album will feature guest appearances from Eminem, Kendrick Lamar, Snoop Dogg, The Game, and a handful of other artists.
Compton: A Soundtrack By Dr. Dre is scheduled to be released on August 7, one week before the release of the N.W.A biopic, Straight Outta Compton.
DJ Rhettmatic’s Instagram upload can be found below.
I guess it was wishful thinking to expect all of the production to be handled by Dre. No disrespect to Dj Premier of course.
Completely agree.
Does Dre even produce anymore?
I love preem but dre’s last 2 albums were completely produced mainly by him. And that’s why they were so good.
I feel this Compton soundtrack will be good but nothing on the level of Chronic or 2001.
Can someone tell me the last beat dre did? I can’t even remember? 50 Cent’s smoke?
Dr dre still over 50 and washed up. Drake is already a boss and helped out kendricks career and weeknd. Can’t feel my face (ripoff of Michael Jacksons classics) is only a hit thanks to a cosign from drake.
Dre is 50 years old and is richer than every rapper out there, he can’t be washed up. He’s a boss, not Drake, who did not help Kendrick and Weeknd’s careers. Can’t Feel My Face (which didn’t ripoff Michael Jackson) became a hit by itself, Drake didn’t cosign anything.
Can’t feel my face (almost swore he just stole some unreleased vocals of Michael jackson) got lifted by a drake cosign. Along with his career.
No Drake co-sign lifted The Weeknd’s career and it didn’t lift that song (which didn’t steal any of Michael’s vocals). Hell, there was no Drake co-sign, The Weeknd became successful by himself.
Yo Dan! Fuck you and that pussy Drake doggie. Wtf does that have to do with this article? You Drake rider lol
You caught major feelings. Dr dre hasn’t produced anything in a long time and his detox singles flopped. Even he admitted so. Drake lifted artists like kendrick and weeknd.
Actually, Dre has done production work. The Detox singles did not flop, which Dre didn’t say. Drake did nit lift Kendrick amd The Weeknd, those two lifted themselves.
Gonna be sick!
yeah this album gon’ rock hard can’t wait !!!!
I can’t wait for this album I bet it’s a classic or dre wouldent release it it’s pretty much Detox with a diff name now if we can just get Master P to release Ice Cream Man 2 this will be a great year!!
2001 was a huge letdown compared to chronic and dre being older and washed up continue to fell off ever since. His detox singles were crap and compton doesn’t sound promising. It’s also funny how you complain about guests in cash money and mmg albums yet dre has 2 or 3 each track.
2001 was no letdown, it’s a classic. Everybody gets older, dumbass, including your favorite rappers. It didn’t change anything as he didn’t fall off, he kept rising. ThemDetox singles weren’t crap and Compton actually looks promising. Nobody’s talking about Cash Money and MMG here, they’re irrelevant.
They may be getting older but aren’t wash up yet like dre and Jay z. They rich though although they had easy life’s while birdman and ross jad hard lives.
Jay Z and Dre aren’t washed-up if they’re rich and successful. Besides, you got it wrong. They didn’t have easy lives at all. Birdman and Ross don’t have hard lives, they had it easier (especially Ross).
Anyone who grew up in South Central LA doesn’t have an easy life.
Dan I feel sorry for you. Rick Ross had a hard life? Get off cash money/mmg dicks. Their music is garbage and the fact you like it reflects on how much of a bitch you are
I grew up in the streets of compton and its nowhere near as bad as others make it out to be. Some crime sure but on par with other streets.
You just love making up bullshit. You never even been to Compton. It’s as bad as people say it is. You’re clearly a suburban teenager.
@Dan If you grew up in the G-Funk era then 2001 may have seemed like a let down, but for me, it was my introduction to Hip Hop music. It was the first album I ever bought. They wouldn’t even sell it to me cause I wasn’t big enough to see over the counter. I had to wait till my uncle was drunk to get it for me, lol
Dan, you obviously dont know your Rap music. How on earth was 2001 a let down?
Idiot
Lazier beats and lazier rapping. Suge Knight made sure chronic was up to standards.
Please. The beats and rapping on 2001 were on point, not lazy. Suge wasn’t involved with the music, he was too busy beating people up and extorting them.
How the fuck was 2001 a let down? That guy is an idiot.
I just told you dumbass. Read it again.
And your reasoning is all a lie since 2001 is a classic.
“lazier beats” just because you assert it, doesn’t mean what you’re saying is true. give us some examples and breakdown what was actually wrong with the music/production. please explain, eleborate mr. critic.
Theses niggas on this site lol
so i wonder if this is a bunch of throw aways or did he actually put work into it. time will tell i guess
The guy scrapped an entire album with three years of work because it wasn’t “good enough.” I think it’s safe to say that this album isn’t full of throw away beats.
u know u guys stole this from 2dopeboyz yet you decide not to give the correct credit. shame on u.
Finally Dr Dre and Dj Premier teamed up for the first time in HIPHOP history. Its West and East kings, what a good news.
They teamed up once for the Man vs Machine album from mr x to the z
I hope Dre actually rhymed on the Premo beat
