In an effort to add to the conversation on the current state of Hip Hop, Weeds actor and blossoming rapper Page Kennedy drops his own lyrical assault over JAY-Z’s “The Story of O.J.” beat. Spitting on topics like Auto-Tune, mumble rap and money phones, Kennedy works to deconstruct what many view as what’s “wrong” with Hip Hop, before reversing things on the last verse.

“HOV put us up on some grown man shit on 4:44,” Kennedy said in an interview. “So I just wanted to expand on what he did with this song and play devil’s advocate. There are two sides of every story and I wanted to share both sides. I also wanted to show my own personal maturity in opening myself up to different kinds of rap music that I normally dismiss cause it’s different from what I typically like.”

Kennedy’s next project is dropping next month. Until then, check out the single above.
