Migos was the center of online chatter this week after reports went out that the band had refused to appear alongside drag queens during their/Katy Perry’s Saturday Night Live performance. A rep for the group has come forth to shoot down those reports, saying they were false.

The group was set to take the stage with Perry to perform their collaborative single “Bon Appétit” but allegedly refused because of the involvement of drag queens as part of the set, according to an anonymous quote in a post from World of Wonder. The website, which is linked to the production company behind RuPaul’s Drag Race, has since deleted the post but not before websites and blogs picked it up as news.

One clue that the story is false is that Migos did, in fact, perform with Katy Perry and the drag queens, as scheduled.

A spokesperson for the group told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution that the story was “false and completely fabricated.” A rep for Katy Perry told SPIN the story was false as well.

In their detailed report debunking the story, SPIN also spoke with Brita Filter, one of the drag queens who appeared in the performance, who said:

“It was incredible performing with Katy Perry. She wanted to have all walks of life at the table. I was happy to represent all the drag queens. There was numerous changes throughout the rehearsal process. They chose to have only people of color at the table. There was no drama with Migos.”

The rumor spread fast considering Migos made headlines for homophobic remarks related to iLoveMakkonen coming out as gay earlier this year. The group later clarified the remarks, saying “We are all fan’s of Makonnens music and we wish he didn’t feel like he ever had to hide himself. We feel the world is fucked up that people feel like they have to hide and we’re asked to comment on someone’s sexuality. We have no problem with anyone’s sexual preference. We love all people, gay or straight and we apologize if we offended anyone.”

Migos hasn’t commented publicly on this latest matter as yet.
