Dr. Jan Adams says that he is not responsible for the 2007 death of Kanye West’s mother.

In an interview with Inside Edition, the plastic surgeon who operated on Donda West prior to her death reads a letter he wrote at the time of her death after speaking with people who were with her.

“Her caregivers gave her, whoa, 20 Vicodin tabs in less than 20 hours,” he says, reading the letter.

Adams says that she died from cardiopulmonary failure and the amount of medication contributed to her choking on her own vomit, not from complications of the surgery, which consisted of a tummy tuck, breast reduction and liposuction.

Adams has said that people have scapegoated him for her death. The family chose not to follow Adams’ advice that West recover in a medical facility and instead left her in the care of Kanye’s cousin, Stephan Scoggins, who is a registered nurse. Adams says that Scoggins was irresponsible in his care of West.

“Her nurse wasn’t there,” he says of Scoggins. “Her nurse was gone to a baby shower, rather than taking care of his aunt.”

Adams and the coroner’s office said that Scoggins left West “in the care of laypersons.”

Adams says that West choked because she was reportedly left lying on her back.

“This lady shouldn’t be dead,” he says. “All you had to do is sit her up and every nurse on the planet knows that.

“Donda West survived the surgery very well,” he adds. “She was at home.”

Adams says that Kanye West should speak up about the truth of the situation.

“My point to Kanye is, tell what he knows,” he says. “Point the finger at who the coroner pointed at. The truth when you bury it just grows bigger.”
