Das Racist Breaks Up, Members Make Statements

Das Racist group members react to the announcement of their break up on various platforms.

It may have come as a surprise to fans but the members of Das Racist knew the group was finished for quite some time. So when Heems took the stage recently without his group mates, the news finally broke to Das Racist supporters.

Suri made his statement in Germany, in front of a festival crowd.

"Alright," he said, according to Vulture. "So I'm gonna do some Das Racist songs, but Das Racist is breaking up and we're not a band anymore."

Kool A.D. followed Heems, sharing his statement to Twitter followers.

Dapwell also shared his take on the group's demise via Spin.

"We had just signed this record deal and we were going to put out one proper album and then go on a farewell tour, release a proper breaking up statement that could have been really funny, maybe a weird, stupid video," he explained. "Now, all of that has gone to shit."

This was a gimmick from day one. They were fueled by elite writers and bloggers from day one and that fuel ran out and their whole thing came to a screeching halt. Not to mention they are jackass clowns. This is the new music business. No talent, no dedication required.

Actually, looking at them, you'd assume they were wack as fuck. The first time I sat down and actually listened to them, I was kinda surprised at the quality of some of the songs. When they're not outsmarting (or outdumbing, however you look at it) themselves, they got some talent, on the mic and behind the boards. I can appreciate artists having a sense of humor and not taking themselves too seriously, but it seems like there's never anyone in the middle. It's either a artist is super hard and way too serious, or they're a fuckin' clown who can't be taken seriously at all.

They broke up because they were racist. It says it in the article.

"Does anyone even listen to them?" Yes, they did well sales wise and were critically acclaimed. I can see why some people would be put off by their weird approach, but I think they're misunderstood. Underneath the "sloppyness", everything is super well thought out. Some of it probably ranged into the Dada art style (Victor more than Heems) which is why it came off as nonsense. They're also very intelligent and their reference and word play was top notch. I'm not saying all of their songs were perfect, but they stood out. Sometimes hip hop gets too comfortable doing the same old things without pushing boundries, so groups like Das Racist are needed to shake things up a little (in my opinion). or, you know, shut up, dude.

Das Racist breaks up, members make statements: "Nobody was checking for us, so we've decided to give up"

    ...aaaand nobody gives a fuck

I've never understood the appeal of Das Racist anyway. The idea of intentional sloppy flows and rhyming doesn't make sense to me.
