Chad Hugo has mastered the art of elevating other people’s voices over his illustrious career, and his contributions to one of the biggest albums of the year so far has now come to light.

Earlier this week, a video of the Neptunes producer surfaced online in which he could be seen playing the horn over Kanye West and Ty Dolla $ign’s “Problematic.”

Though he’s been listed in the credits of the Vultures 1 cut alongside West, 88-Keys, DJ Camper, Digital Nas and Slonka, the clip has brought attention to the nature of his participation on the joint.

A little over a week after its release, Ye and Ty’s album debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart.

According to the publication, the collaborative effort generated 148,000 album-equivalent units in its first week, with 129,000 of that figure coming from streaming units (167.78 million on-demand streams in total), 18,000 from pure album sales and 1,000 from TEA (track equivalent album) units.

With this accolade, the Chicago native now has 11 No. 1 albums to his name, placing him shoulder-to-shoulder with Bruce Springsteen and Barbra Streisand — only Drake (13), Taylor Swift (13), JAY-Z (14) and The Beatles (19) are currently ahead of him.

The album is Ty Dolla $ign’s first No. 1 and second Top 10 following 2020’s Featuring Ty Dolla $ign.

The Yeezy boss reacted to the news by issuing a brief statement to Complex, saying: “It’s a beautiful time.”

Ty also celebrated the milestone on his Instagram Stories with a video of him lifting his index finger to the camera while silencing the naysayers.

Released earlier this month, Vultures 1 boasts uncredited appearances from Travis Scott, Playboi Carti, Lil Durk, Chris Brown, Freddie Gibbs, YG, Quavo, Rich The Kid and others. The project was initially only available on streaming platforms and as a digital download through online retailers and the mogul’s website.

Physical versions of the album on CD and vinyl are set to be released later this year, with Ye’s store currently accepting pre-orders.
