This month marks the fifth year anniversary of Hurricane Katrina. Although time has passed, the aftermath of the tragic disaster is still relevant both in New Orleans and surrounding areas. While some may mistake the problem as solved, others are reminding the nation that the aftermath of Katrina is still a very relevant issue.
The Hip Hop Caucus, together with the National Wildlife Federation and New Orleans Katrina Commemoration Foundation have organized the 5th Annual New Orleans Katrina Commemoration March, to be held on Sunday, August 29. The event will include New Orleans residents, local officials and entertainers, and other participants who will trek three miles.

Rev. Lennox Yearwood Jr., President of the Hip Hop Caucus said, “Five years have gone by and New Orleans has still not received the necessary backing from the United States government to help restore this city to prominence.”
Sess 4-5, co-founder of the NOKCF said that the march will take place “to show the families of victims and residents we have not forgotten about their struggle to resume their lives.” The event will also include the reading off of all those who lost their lives in the 2005 disaster.
The commemoration event begins at 10:00 a.m. at the Lower 9th Ward Levee Breach at Jourdan and North Galvez.
