    1. That’s why him or Tyler won’t last. They don’t study the craft. Microwave generation. All art has taken two steps back. How did we get from Wu-Tang, NAS, A Tribe Called Quest, Biggie to this shit we have today. Idiotic mindset like his. When we were coming up in hip hop we would never disrespect the Motown, disco, or the funk era. Don’t shit on the foundation. Respect your roots. This is the worst era not just in hip hop but music in general, hands down.

      1. I agree this is the worst era. However, hip-hop has always been disrespectful. I remember in the 80s when run dmc and the beastie boys were on the come up, Russell Simmons was one of the cats that started that idea that hip hop was a young man’s game. He shit on sugar hill gang, melle mel and the older cats that paved the way. So long story short, it’s a cycle. And hip hop has always been known to eat their own. Late 80s (slick rick, Dougie fresh, run dmc, etc) and 90s is where it’s at.

I have the best ear for dope hip hop on the planet. The 2000s can’t fuck with the 90s era!

    3. So ..nas,jayz,bone thugs,dr dre,ice cube, eazy e, Ll cool J, Camron, wu tang, lox, puff daddy and bad boy roster, b.i.g, 2pac, redman, method man, DmX…ect shit i could go on forever…hell..most of these guys sold more then 1mill hardware copies….yah and 80s and 90s was when rap was real and creative……vince staples is the most dumbest person is hip hop history…..

    4. What’s so crazy about Vince is, he verified in the phone interview with Sway, that he knows the history of hip-hop music. You can hear him bring up references of past artists. But his argument is that, because certain music didn’t come out during his time of experiencing life as he’s growing up, he can’t properly appreciate it. But that’s straight bullshit. Regardless of whatever point you’re at in your growth in life, if you experience hearing a song for the first time, what will register with you is whether or not the song resonates with you. Its not going to immediately register with you the exact year it came out. If the song is good it’s good, and you’re going to mentally attach what ever association to the time you first experienced hearing the song like where you were or what you were doing when you first heard it. You create your own experience to it. So for Vince to say all the shit he’s said is so fucking contradictive and ass backwards…. I wonder if he’s really as intelligent as Sway claim he is. If he is, then he would never had let such backhanded statements come out his mouth and eventually be placed in a situation where he has to make attempts to defend himself.

    5. He killed his career before it started. He was on a Common joint and got the cosign and his skill set is like ahn…most people that rock with him.are because of the cosign from Sway and the feature …his joint is going to go wood…

    6. The entitlement generation. I came up during the golden age and we looked with pride to our past. Chased down anything before us for a deeper love and understanding of the culture. We wanted to learned about The Coldcrush Busy Bee Mele Mel Soul Sonic Force etc. That was the mindstate. Thats why the music created will never be duplicated. Its a shame too with everything at your fingertips. You no longer had to dig for vinyl or cassets etc.

    7. Vince Staples is actually pretty damn WACK even before he made this comment. Out of all of his projects, maybe he has 2 good songs. That’s it. He’s not a powerful voice. He’s hardly a voice. His content is weak.

    8. First off…since when is Vince Staples one of hiphops most powerful voices? Shoddy, bush league journalism hiphopdx. Dude is literally unheard of in 99.9 percent of fans playlist. Evwn out on the west coast your most likely to hear Cassie Veggies, or Earl Sweatshirts name dropped if your talking about hot rappers, and thats really amongst backpackers/ white skate boarder dudes. the only reason I ever checked for dude at al is because yall held his dick so hard and gave him such glowing endorsements for the album and ep. Also Im a fan of No ID and saw he was affiliated with him. Admittedly he has a nice flow and content, but what’s ironic is that the audience that would support him the MOST are muafuckas who came up on that dope 90’s shit that he’s so obviously descended from! Also, nigga keep in mind that your decent for TODAYS sooooper low standards of lyricism..Even late 90’s early 2000s niggas like Mos Def and Talib kweli wouldve bodied you on the mic..Wu-Tangs minor league niggas like Killah Bees, or Killah Priest wouldve massacred you lyrically, let alone the top tier niggas like meth and raekwon. What made the 90’s the Golden Era was the mix of STYLE, SKILL, plus SUBSTANCE..A nigga with a crazy, super turned up persona like Busta rhyme, or old Dirty also had to have BARS..or theyd be considered a joke. Even Bone Thugs(who I didnt like at the time) had ridiculous flow, and melody. Niggas like Young thug absolutely couldnt have made it out of ATL in the 90’s when you had the Dungeon Family killing everything that moved..

And thats not to say that there arent any dope niggas out now. I fucks with Logic hard. Mic Jenkins and Chance the rapper wouldve been dope in any era. And the “Pussy and patron” kendrick lamar wouldve fit nicely on the Dr. Dre era Deathrow.

Overall though, the 90’s stand alone as hip-hops most prolific era because of the diversity, and the sheer amount of timeless, quality music that it produced.

    9. I am a huge 90s rap fan but I really don’t understand the outrage. I’m born in 87 so even when I was a teenager in the late 90s early 2000s a lot of kids weren’t really into stuff from the 90s. They were bumpin the stuff that was fresh out. The early 2000s was what he grew up on, he doesn’t feel a connection to 90s music. What is the issue? Everybody gotta like the same shit? Y’all need to get a life. For the record Vince’s music is dope, but hey, you might not like it, everyone’s different.

    10. I hope Vince is havin fun revealin how dumb ya is. He ain’t said nuthin wrong. Anyone got a butthurt is just plain moron. Keep on rockin in a free world Vince!

    11. Lulz. 90s rappers and mcs were constantly disrespecting 80s R&B. That’s what kids do. Why do the 90s get a fucking pass?

    12. DX- Justin Hunte! I am critical when I read some of the articles from some of your Drake loving co-workers but I have to give you credit. This article and topic needed to be discussed and by someone who has now gained my respect. Keep up the good work brother!

    13. Vince Staples and Tyler the Creator are both from California, therefore they both grew up in a Pop Culture Society, They grew up prodominitly pop society. I’m so sick of all this “you can’t say that, cos it might offend some people”……..I wish people would stop being so sensitive and speak their minds and call out all this whackness which has spreaded in the Hip Hop Culture…….

It is very Important to keep the 5 elements in Hip Hop relevant or in 10 years from now a singing R&B white dude will have “Hip Hop album of the year” at the BET Hip Hop Awards…….do ya’ll see where this is going……..it’s happening real slow if ya’ll continue to co-sign whackness……..
