This generation of music heads got a lot of splainin’ to do ( Ricky Ricardo voice). You’ve allowed the music industry to turn us into cardboard cut-out one trick pony’s while pushing an agenda that ultimately benefits only them.
Feeding us straight garbage…and what do we do..?
Turn away and say “nah, no thanks, I’ll wait for some real shit to come along” ..?
Nope.!! We eat that garbage shit up until we love it and then ask for seconds..!
I challenge you (YES YOU..) to step outside your comfort zone and listen to The Black Opera.
This is my first time hearing of them, which is sad and speaks for itself because it’s their 4th studio album. Yeah, it’s different, but isn’t that what music is supposed to be? An expression of your individuality that people can appreciate, embrace and then share with others.
You know who else was “different” when they came out….
Public Enemy / A Tribe Called Quest / De La Soul / Gangstarr / Leaders of the New School / E.P.M.D / Slick Rick / Big Daddy Kane / Brand Nubian / The whole damn Boot Camp Clik / The Jungle Brothers / Das Efx / Nas / Eric B. & Rakim / KRS One / The Fugees / The Pharcyde / 2Pac / Bone Thugs n Harmony / BlackStar / The Notorious B.I.G / Wu Tang Clan / DMX / OutKast / The Roots / Scarface / Big Pun / Eminem / and yes, even Jay Z ….that’s enough, you get the idea!
Don’t let the people who run the record labels and radio stations decide what’s “HOT” on your behalf… I urge to you disconnect your mind from the machine and begin deciding for yourselves once again. There was a time when WE determined what was radio and replay worthy, not THEM!
Reclaim that power…..I challenge you!
