I feel like people shouldn’t judge Kendrick Lamar songs out of album-context – he has already proved this point with GKMC. I remember the reception that ‘Backseat Freestyle’ received before people had listened to it as part of the album – it was mixed to negative. Usually the vibe of the song, the content and the beat are meant to be part of the story that is being told throughout the album. ‘Backseat Freestyle’ was about his young, brash attitude and so the song was immature and brash as a result.
