Yall are crazy, mixtapes built Lil Waynes career, look at him now with all his mainstream success, not that I am a fan of mainstream, but his drought 3 mixtapes and all the mixtapes around that time is what built him, 50 cent was built because of mixtapes if you can remember, Papoose, one of the illest lyricist and straight spittas you will ever hear built a whole career off mixtapes, Budded with his Mood Music series is flawless, classic hip hop music right there, Talib Kweli has some ill mixtapes, Diplomats when they were holding it down built success from mixtapes, you must not be to familiar with Hip Hop if you are saying mixtapes are pointless. Listen to Loose Quarter from Joe Budden, way way better then the album he put out. All that being said, the greats do make awesome albums of high quality music, like Jay’s Blueprint Reasonable Doubt and Black Album, or Nas and Illmatic, Stillmatic, Untitled, Blackstar album, I can go on and on, but mixtapes have good material if you are listening to good rappers. Jay Coles mixtapes the warm up come up and friday night lights are better then anything he released, period, like the album but it can’t compete with the warm up or come up.
A good mixtape actually builds anticipation as demonstrated with Wayne and the years people were waiting for Carter 3 because of all the mixtapes he put out people were fiening for his album, without mixtapes most of the good, lyrical artist who are not mainstream wouldn’t be known or have much a career, only mainstream swag fag fans would discredit mixtapes, Mixtapes is a STAPLE OF HIP HOP and part of what makes it great, the new school fans are destroying the culture and everything great about hip hop, and that starts wih people like yall.
